Roosters v Cowboys – Early Look with Jye Bancroft

Roosters v Cowboys – NRL Finals Week 2

An Early Look with guest writer Jye Bancroft

This week we have a clash of two sides that both performed well under the high standards they’re capable during last week’s matches.

With the roosters looking flat all game against Penrith and the Cowboys taking the foot off the gas against the Broncos in Townsville, expect huge improvements from both sides for this blockbuster clash on Friday night.

The Roosters will have improved markedly since taking the panthers far from seriously and hardly treating their opponents as contenders. Coach Trent Robinson will ensure his Roosters treat their new opposition, the Cowboys, as contenders unlike last week.

The Cowboys on the other hand have had one of the best seasons since they started in the NRL back in 1995.

They possess a monster forward pack and halfback Johnathan Thurston is always masterminding their attack with nothing but class. Their cause is nothing but helped by Robert Lui who has had some recently sensational games for the Cowboys since moving to five/eighth.

This game will be won like many other games in the NRL; with defence.

The Roosters have one of the best defensive records in the competition and if they can continue that trend this weekend, they’re in with a brilliant shot of winning against the Cowboys. If however their defence doesn’t hold against a classy Nth Qld side, the tri-colours can expect a long night.

Deciding the match winner will also come down to the halves. Scrum half Mitchell Pearce and stand-off James Maloney have been in phenomenal form lately but their real test is going to be against a scintillating playmaker like Thurston.
Jye’s Best Bet:

If you want to back the first tryscorer try your luck with rangy winger Daniel Tupou. The youngster lines up against relatively inexperienced defence on his left side wing which simply crumbled against the Broncos last Saturday. Expect the roosters to take full advantage of that.

Jyes Tip – Roosters in a low scoring affair. I’ll say by 6 points.
