Sportsbet – Race Comments:

Race 5:
Just an outstanding race! History says it has not been easy for those coming back from 1600m, who are: KEMENTARI and CATCHY. TRAPEZE ARTIST was dominant in Golden Rose at 1400m (six weeks back), beating DRACARYS and MERCHANT NAVY (forgive file/$26 is silly!). TULIP ran by HOUTZEN in Everest against older weight-for-age giants! FORMALITY held off JUKEBOX in the Blue Sapphire with LONE EAGLE a good third. Jukebox was bloused by Catchy here in the Danehill prior. EPTIMUM is the fresh blood. He ran amazing time last week given moderate early fractions and can measure up.
Selections 10, 8, 17, 18

Race 6:
SPEED: 2, 10 may lead 4. 5, 12, 16 can be up there. 9, 15 also. SHOALS just couldn’t hold off a star in Aloisia in 1000 Guineas but she ran super and the race rated very highly. She drops to 50kg into WFA here. GLOBAL GLAMOUR was a tough winner of Tristarc and is a Group 1 winner at 1600m. SILENT SEDITION was wide/very good that same race. She was one of the runs of the year when photo second to HEAVENS ABOVE in G1 Coolmore in March. SHILLELAGH was better than anything in Tristarc but doubt gets a run. Still say Heavens Above should have won this race last year! FOXPLAY back to 1600m can win.
Selections 16, 5, 3, 2

Race 7:
SPEED: 1,12 & 17 (em) go forward. 2, 7 and maybe 10 handy. 3, 8 off those? ACE HIGH didn’t have much peace and set a strong speed in the Spring Champion yet held off TANGLED, SULLY and ASTORIA (wide/forgive). Tangled then chased Cliff’s Edge in the Norman Robinson, easily beating MAIN STAGE, who was coming off a terrific win here in dominant closing sectionals when ridden back. That Norman Robinson was an odd race though, not much changed! WEATHER WITH YOU was strong beating OCEAN’S FOURTEEN and Astoria at Geelong, Astoria had 58kg and ran on against the track bias.
Selections 1, 5, 3, 2

Race 8:
SPEED: 5 lead 3, 13 but doubt go anywhere near as hard as in the Toorak. That day TOM MELBOURNE sat handy. Despite the hot speed (over 12L+ average) he broke clear 200m out before the swoopers arrived. He beat EGG TART (she was second up 1300-to-1600m and five weeks off) and OMEI SWORD (little luck). Winner TOSEN STARDOM is high-class. It’s not easy here with 58kg though. SOVEREIGN NATION was good and WYNDSPELLE ran well without much luck. He then made ground on LUCKY HUSSLER last week at WFA but Lucky Hussler was dominant! SHILLELAGH was huge against bias latest. ALL OUR ROADS wants 1600m.
Selections 5, 6, 2, 9

Race 9:
MISSROCK was (not surprisingly) run off her legs back at 1000m last time. She was every bit as good as Vega Magic in a Goodwood at 1200m and beat home ILLUSTRIOUS LAD and SWEET SHERRY that day. Illustrious Lad won this race (well) last year with 54.5kg. RICH CHARM ran down KEEN ARRAY last time. He is simply a good horse and both these are proven up the straight. MAN FROM UNCLE trialled nicely and goes in everything for mine. BONS AWAY beat the Everest-placed Brave Smash two back. RAVI has a case if gate one is okay.
Selections 7, 15, 11, 1

Ladbrokes Race Comments:

Race 5:
HOUTZEN The Magic Millions winner earlier in the year. Winner at Moonee Valley two back before finding the Everest too hard last start. Will be right on the speed. Will take a power of beating. INVINCIBLE STAR Led all the way to win the Thoroughbred Club Stakes last start at Caulfield by four-lengths. Still scope for improvement. A good chance. CATCHY Beaten favourite last start in the Caulfield Guineas and gets the blinkers on for the first time. Back in distance suits. Expected to be a contender. EPTIMUM Last start win at Moonee Valley took streak to three in a row. Has a lot of speed and will be in this for a long way. One of the main hopes.

Race 6:
SHOALS Blinkers come off for the first time and four wins and two seconds from six starts to date. Runner-up in the Thousand Guineas last start. Takes on the older mares but still a leading contender. COOL PASSION Just missed at long odds last start in the Tristarc Stks after winning the Northwood Plume. Racing well. Winning chance. GLOBAL GLAMOUR Coming off a win in the Tristarc Stks when first up and won two of three Group I attempts. Will likely lead/box seat. One of the main hopes. PROMPT RESPONSE Finished a neck back from the winner last start at Caulfield this trip. Placed in two of three at Flemington before. Rates a place chance with even running from the gate.

Race 7:
ASTORIA Worked in the run in the Spring Champion Stakes two back before working home solidly when third in the Geelong Classic. Looks suited at the trip and gets a soft run from the gate. A value chance. OCEAN’S FOURTEEN Donald maiden winner two runs back before hitting the line hard when a close second in the Geelong Classic. Still plenty of scope for improvement at just fourth career start and shouldn’t be under-estimated. GREYCLIFFE Has won two of last three on country tracks and had plenty on a benchmark 64 field at Seymour last start. Will be right on the speed and no surprise to see him in the finish. ACE HIGH Has relished racing on the speed this preparation leading all the way to win the Gloaming and Spring Champion Stales last two. First go at the trip but will get every chance to run it out from a perfect barrier draw. Right in the mix.

Race 8:
EGG TART Placed in first start this prep in the Theo Marks and wasn’t far away in the Toorak. A two time Group I winner. Capable of closing gamely. Hard to beat. MCCREERY In the money last start running third at Randwick and returns to shorter trip. Down in weight. Genuine contender. LUCKY HUSSLER Backs up after a big finish to win the Crystal Mile at Moonee Valley last start. Expected to be a contender but will need a touch of luck from the gate. OMEI SWORD Finished 11th last start in the Toorak Handicap but stays under notice on Golden Pendent placing at Rosehill two back. Go well.

Race 9:
Open race with luck in running crucial. RAVI Six weeks between runs. Just missed as favourite last start at Caulfield and no luck after winning at Rosehill fresh. Strong hope. KEEN ARRAY Gilgai winner at Flemington two runs back. Has good speed and drops 2kg from last run. Can get the job done. BONS AWAY Can’t knock the form with four wins from seven attempts this campaign and less than a length away in the Gilgai last start. Goes down in weight. A winning chance. MALIBU STYLE Faded to finish three lengths off the winner last start at Caulfield but placed in two of three at Flemington before. Rates a place chance.
