Sportsbet – Race Comments and Selections:

Race 5:
First of the big ones is the Stradbroke where there appears to be genuine speed on the map with nos.8, 9 & 15 the main players. Narrowed it down to two chances (hopefully it’s that easy…) being IMPENDING & CHAMPAGNE CUDDLES who not surprisingly top the markets. Barriers & weights point to CHAMPAGNE CUDDLES & I’ll certainly be having a saver however for me it’s IMPENDING who has had to deal with slowly run races all 3 starts up here this campaign winning twice. CHAMPAGNE CUDDLES is thrown (50kg) & if off the fence in good time will be right there at the finish. CRACK ME UP a good ‘roughie’.
Selections 1 Impending, 16 Champange Cuddles, 3 Cracke Me Up, 17 Danon Liberty

Race 6:
Always one of the carnival highlights is the 1600m Atkins for the 2yo’s, after a local victory last year I’m confident the prize will head south on this occasion with Chris Waller’s pair LEAN MEAN MACHINE & THE AUTUMN SUN all set to fight out the finish. Expect a solid tempo which will suit both however for me it’s THE AUTUMN SUN who has been nothing but impressive at both wins, the step to 1600m should suit perfectly. Similar story LEAN MEAN MACHINE who scored inside runs to win here a fortnight back after a good Gold Coast run when luckless from a wide gate. SESAR is my ‘roughie’.
Selections 5 The Autumn Sun, 1 Lean Mean Machine, 4 Sesar, 11 Fundamentalist

Race 7:
Cracking race this years Derby with formlines from multiple states all thrown into the mix, really looking forward to this. Han Xin will look to cross & lead again, maps to get over ok however others likely to push on also. Throwing the wide barrier out the window & going with LUCKY FOR ALL who has been nothing but impressive in Victoria, arguably unbeaten this prep with clear running last run & any rain will only boost his chances. LIVE & FREE is flying in Sydney raising the bar at every run & comes into this at precisely the right time. HEAVENLY THOUGHT goes in (drawn a lot better then most).
Selections 11 Lucky for All, 7 Live and Free, 2 Heavenly Thought, 16 Youngstar

Race 8:
Expert Tips provided by Best Bets
Schism to roll clear in front here, Savatiano has been racing well up on the speed of late & from the good gate will be right there from the outset. Absolute lottery, going with the well drawn FRENCH EMOTION who as a rule likes to drift back & finish off in her races. Coming off consecutive wins & a 5 week break she’ll be nice & fresh here & if close enough in the straight look out late! PEDRENA & INVINCIBELLA both have very good formlines however will have to contend with wide draws giving away big starts & look to rush home late. Include O’RACHAEL who was very good in an easier race latest.
Selections 2 French Emotion, 5 Pedrena, 11 Invincibella, 9 Moss Trip

Unibet – Race Comments and Selections:

Race 5:
CHAMPAGNE CUDDLES (16) Racing in great form and will be flying home with the light weight. Strong claims. IMPENDING (1) In career best form. Can definitely go back to back in this race. PERAST (15) Wide gate makes it tricky but if he finds cover, he has each-way claims. DANON LIBERTY (17) Overseas raider who brings some X-factor to this race. Keep safe if he gets a run.
Selections: 16 Champagne Cuddles, 1 Impending, 15 Perast, 17 Danon Liberty

Race 6:
THE AUTUMN SUN (5) Unbeaten colt who looks to have speed to spare against this lot. Should go close here. LEAN MEAN MACHINE (1) Stablemate to the favourite who comes through different formlines. Keep safe. ZOUSAIN (2) Good effort last start and can go on with it here. Each way claims. FUNDAMENTALIST (11) Handy filly who has been running good races in South Australia. Watch the betting.
Selections: 5 The Autumn Sun, 1 Lean Mean Machine, 2 Zousain, 11 Fundamentalist

Race 7:
LIVE AND FREE (7) Progressive type who can make it three in a row here. Strong chance. DARK DREAM (1) Flying of late and should appreciate the conditions. Expect it to have an impact. LUCKY FOR ALL (11) One that possesses plenty of scope. Can win if it gets a soft run. HEAVENLY THOUGHT (2) Racing in good form and can go on with the job. Each way claims.
Selections: 7 Live and Free, 1 Dark Dream, 11 Lucky for All, 2 Heavenly Thought

Race 8:
MOSS TRIP (9) Has the numbers to figure here and presents a better chance in this grade. Should take beating. PEDRENA (5) Steady horse that never appears to do much wrong. Looks nice if you can get an each way price. SAVATIANO (16) Worth considering in this class so don’t disrespect here. Watch market moves. INVINCIBELLA (11) In good form and this horse has paid its way for punters. At these odds it looks a fair each-way shot.
Selections: 9 Moss Trip, 5 Pedrena, 16 Savatiano, 11 Invincibella

Ladbrokes – Race Comments:

Race 5:
IMPENDING Is chasing back to back Stradbroke wins after carrying 52.5kg to victory last year. Has returned to racing in terrific order winning the Victory Stakes resuming and the Kingsford Smith Cup last start with the two wins separated by a close second in the Doomben 10,000. Doesn’t look badly treated at the weights and is right on track for another Stradbroke win. CHAMPAGNE CUDDLES Hasn’t missed a place in her nine starts and three times a winner and was placed in all the big races against her own age and sex in the Spring. She was terrific against the older horses in the Kingsford Smith Cup and she will shake the life out of this getting in with 50kg. PERAST Has come of age this preparation winning last two at Doomben. Gets in on the minimum and is worth including in the wider exotics. OSBORNE BULLS Has always looked a horse capable of being competitive at Group I level winning seven of his 10 starts and finishing in the placings in the other three and arguably unlucky in all of them. Is the second emergency but if he was to get a run would be right in the finish.

Race 6:
FUNDAMENTALIST Won successive races at Mornington and Morphettville earlier in the preparation and has finished runner-up last two in Adelaide including a strong finishing runner-up finish in the Sires last start. Races like she will relish getting out to the mile and I wouldn’t be under-estimating her with the Hayes and Dabernig polish. THE AUTUMN SUN Is unbeaten in his two starts to date for Chris Waller with successive victories at Randwick. Looks right up to this level and has plenty of scope for improvement. ZOUSAIN Was run down late in the Sires at Doomben last start. The awkward gate and the step up to the mile look genuine queries but still has plenty of upside. LEAN MEAN MACHINE Made it two wins from four starts with a strong finishing win in the Sire’s Produce last start. Looks like he will run out a strong mile and is right in the mix again.

Race 7:
YOUNGSTAR Looked gone for all money straightening in the Oaks but rallied late to get up on the line to make it four on the trot. There is nothing to suggest she won’t handle the boys with the 2kg weight pull. DARK DREAM Hasn’t missed a place in his nine starts to date including a four-length win in the Rough Habit Plate two back before being a beaten odds-on favourite in the Grand Prix last start. Rates as one of the key chances again. LIVE AND FREE Could not have been more impressive winning his last two at Rosehill and Randwick. This is his toughest test to date but there has been plenty of authority in the wins and looks right up to the task. LUCKY FOR ALL Won three on the trot before a total forget run at Sandown last start when he never saw daylight and went to the line untested. Has to be given another chance.

Race 8:
PROMPT RESPONSE Won the Emancipation at Rosehill two back before a runner-up finish in the Coolmore Legacy last start. Hasn’t raced for eight-weeks but has been kept up to the mark with a Rosehill trial placing and worth noting she won the Breeders Classic at Warwick Farm resuming last time in. INVINCIBELLA Has been close-up all three runs this preparation including a runner-up finish in the Glenlogan Park at Doomben last start. She’s ready to win peaking fourth-up. SCHISM Has been placed at last four starts including a third in the Glenlogan Park last start. She’s a must for the wider exotics. SAVATIANO Has come back in terrific order winning at Scone first-up before treating her rivals with contempt at Randwick last start. She’s right up to winning this.
