Race 4:
HOLYFIELD (2) Third up from a break. Got the prize when winning last run at Rosehill but racing in stronger company today. Could pose a threat and expected to go very close. GLENFIDDICH (1) Honest race when 3rd last time at Caulfield and second up from a spell. Has shown early pace in races to date. Can go on with it. FLYING AWARD (5) Fought on well to win two runs back at Flemington and should get going late. Won’t be far away. CHERRY TORTONI (4) Having second run back from a spell. Brave effort to win two runs back at Flemington and displays good closing speed. Include in all exotics.
Race 5:
SEPTEMBER RUN (2) Scored a victory last time at Flemington and having third run back from a spell. Should land a nice spot just off the speed. Can go on with it. SWATS THAT (1) Having second run back from a break. Bold effort to win three runs back at Bendigo but up against stronger competition today. Expecting to settle just off the pace. Key player. DIRTY THOUGHTS (3) Got the prize when winning two runs back at the track but rising in grade. Likely to be well placed early. Ticks plenty of boxes and looks like value. MILEVA (6) Second up from a break. Solid win last start at Morphettville and can find a nice position from the draw. Use betting as best guide.
Race 6:
AL GALAYEL (5) Won narrowly last start at Caulfield and proven performer at this distance. Should land a nice spot just off the speed. Classy enough for this field and is one of the major players. PLEIN CIEL (7) Was competitive when 2nd two runs back at Caulfield and will try to take advantage of the gate. Worth a ticket. MIRAGE DANCER (1) Having second run back from a spell. Managed to run into 3rd two runs back at Randwick and has the ideal gate. Goes very close. QUICK THINKER (2) Second up. Got the upper hand late when winning three runs back at Randwick and drops back to a suitable class. Trifectas chance.
Race 7:
FABERGINO (9) Races well fresh winning 7 from 7 attempts. Winner last time at Ascot and displays good tactical speed. Will be in the finish. BELLA VELLA (6) Won narrowly last run here and second up. Should muster plenty of early speed. Winning hope. PIPPIE (7) Could build on a strong first up record. Fought on well to win three runs back at Caulfield and likely to be well placed early. Maybe for the trifectas and a marginal hope. AWAY GAME (12) Resumes after a spell. Displayed potential when winning two runs back at Randwick but bit of extra work to do with more weight today. Could run into the placings.
Race 8:
PERFECT JEWEL (3) Displayed potential when winning two runs back at Caulfield and third up. Will be looking to sit just behind the pace. Worth an investment. MYSTIC JOURNEY (1) Could build on a strong third up record. Only whacked away when 10th last run at Caulfield. Does look suited and strong performer at this trip. Should just about get the run of the race. Deserves consideration. GREYSFUL GLAMOUR (6) Couldn’t shake them off when 2nd three runs back at Randwick and shows good early pace. Include in all exotics. PRINCESS JENNI (5) Should bounce back from the last run when 12th at Flemington. Looking for an improved run and always seems to find the line well. Watch market moves.

Race 4:
Expect to see a bit of movement with the Victoria Derby market post-race, with the top five in betting all lining up here. GLENFIDDICH was excellent in a Memsie first-up with Behemoth franking the form last Saturday. His only start at this trip, he ran a bottler when a narrow second behind star 2YO King’s Legacy. CHERRY TORTONI encountered only wet tracks in his debut campaign, winning all three of those starts. Attacked the line against the pattern in what was a lovely return at Flemington. You could make a strong case FLYING AWARD should have won first-up. He gives the impression he’ll relish 1600m. CROWN MINT is untested at the mile, but being a son of Hallowed Crown, the extra distance shouldn’t be an issue.

Race 5:
RAISON D’ETRE showed off a nice turn of foot to sprint clear through the heavy 8 when first-up at Canterbury before a slow recovery at her most recent start. SEPTEMBER RUN is a versatile filly who caught a few off guard when winning down the straight at Flemington, exploding late after given a quiet ride. She led all the way in the Listed Bill Carter Stakes at Doomben in the winter. SWATS THAT jumped out extremely well before finding only September Run better in that referenced Flemington race. DIRTY THOUGHTS will need some luck from the draw, but her form this prep is hard to ignore.

Race 6:
After a somewhat disappointing autumn campaign, MIAMI BOUND returned in good order here fresh, attacking the line on a very wet track. She then went to the Makybe Diva and her race was over after she was hampered by a horse that had broken down. Ready for this longer trip now. MANTASTIC should be ready to fire now fourth-up. He’s been tracking up well this time in. QUICK THINKER beat Zebrowski in the Group 2 Tulloch Stakes over this trip earlier in the year. He loves racing on affected going. MIRAGE DANCER next best.

Race 7:
They’ll need to be very quick to head off the resuming PIPPIE, who will be the lamplighter, with JUNGLE EDGE sitting outside her. The latter is undoubtedly going to enjoy the lashing Melbourne is expected to cop on Friday. Pippie led all the way to win a quick Oakleigh Plate when first-up in the autumn. DIAMOND EFFORT sat wide fresh and was still too good for them in The Heath at Caulfield. The wetter the better for the full sister of mudlark Second Effort. BELLA VELLA is another mare in-form and importantly, she loves The Valley. The colt HANSEATIC will be out to emulate the feats of three-year-olds Extreme Choice and She Will Reign in this race in 2016 and 2017 respectively. Both settled back in the field before rocketing home and finishing over the top with the light weight on their backs.

Race 8:
PERFECT JEWEL rose to this trip in the Group 1 Makybe Diva at WFA and raced in restricted room. She’s back into her right race here. Willing to give MYSTIC JOURNEY one more chance now that she’s stepping up to her favoured trip and taking on her own sex. In these conditions, BENITOITE comes right into play. She raced well without reward and without much going her way last preparation, including a 4th in a Group 1 Coolmore Classic despite not being in the best part of the track. GREYSFUL GLAMOUR gave nothing else a chance in her only start at The Valley, winning by 6L.
