For head to head betting on soccer matches there are three possible outcomes, a home team win, an away team win, and a draw. For popular matches such as English Premier League games and A-League fixtures, betting agencies will also offer ‘Half Ball’ (aka Handicap) and ‘Draw no Bet’ options. ‘Half Ball’ pays out if your selected team wins or draws, while ‘Draw no Bet’ pays out if your selected team wins, and issues a refund (i.e no profit or loss) if your selected team draws.
Below is a typical betting schedule for a football match.
| | | HEAD TO HEAD | | | HALF BALL | | | DRAW NO BET | |
| Adelaide United | | | 2.45 | | | 1.40 | | | 1.75 |
| Draw | | | 3.15 | | | | | ||
| Melbourne Victory | | | 2.85 | | | 1.52 | | | 2.05 |
As you can see, half ball bets have the lowest payout because they payout in the event of a draw, while a ‘Draw no Bet’ selection only refunds your money in the event of a draw.
Often for less popular games the ‘Half Ball’ and ‘Draw no Bet’ options are not available, meaning you can only bet on the head to head outcomes.
The calculator below enables you to calculate the combination of bets that would enable you to emulate these bet types yourself. The outcomes occasionally provide better value than actual ‘Half Ball’ and ‘Draw no Bet’ options, but typically, you will find that the actual options provide better value.
To use the calculator, input the head to head odds for a win and a draw along with the desired combined bet amount.
