Betting on the Weather in the Open Championship 2010

Betting on the The Open Championship 2010 is an exercise in predicting the weather at the moment.

I took a punt on the weather getting worse in the afternoon on Friday and made a series of bets on the early starters. Louis Oosthuizen came up trumps for me, with his odds dropping from 29.00 to 4.00. Oosthuizen now leads the tournament at -12, with a five shot lead over his nearest rival. I also placed a bet on Calcavecchia at odds of 301.00. He is currently second at -7, and his odds are now 41.00. I now have to decide whether to hedge my bets or sit on the good odds I have.

I dodged Rory McIlroy who had odds of 4.00 to win the tournament prior to the start of play on Friday. After his round of 80 he now has odds of 51.00.

Off the top of my head, something like 23 players scored under par in the morning, with no one scoring under par in the afternoon.

For those who are actively following the golf, below are some weather links for St Andrews:

I also recommend following the live text commentary on http://www.bbc.co.uk. The commentary is like an open forum, with people texting and writing into it. You can get some good weather updates from people at the tournament from this commentary.
