KFC Twenty20 Big Bash League – Preliminary Stats and Betting Insights

Given how new the KFC Twenty20 Big Bash League is, it is difficult for punters to establish betting value. Now that sixteen games have been played, I thought it would be a good time to take a look at some of the emerging trends.

The most significant trend is the fact that in 50% of the matches, the losing team scored 150 runs or more. This plays heavily into the hands of punters with Luxbet, which offers the promotion where if you back a team that scores 150+ and loses, you get your bet refunded. Luxbet will refund $200 of your wager as a bonus bet in any Big Bash fixture where this happens. The bonus bets may only be used on Twenty20 Big Bash Match markets.

Some other results of interest are:

The home team has won 56.3% of the matches. The equivalent fair odds for the home team are 1.78, and 2.29 for the away team, without knowing any other information. To assist you with your bet selections, be sure to check out the latest league standings.

The team that bats first has won 62.5% of the matches. The equivalent fair odds for the first team to bat are 1.60, and 2.67 for the second team to bat, without knowing any other information.

If the home team bats first, they have won 71.4% of the matches (5 out of 7). The equivalent fair odds for the home team in this case are 1.40, and 3.50 for the away team, without knowing any other information.

The side that wins the toss has won 62.5% of the matches. The equivalent fair odds for the toss winners are 1.60, and 2.67 for the toss losers, without knowing any other information.

The average scores for each ground (four innings in total for each venue) are as follows:
SCG 152.25
MCG 142.75
Adelaide Oval 159.75
WACA 140.75
Gabba 161.75
Blundstone Arena 143.25
Etihad Stadium 176.25
ANZ Stadium 146.25

  1. Update: last night’s match between the Heat and Hurricanes ended 201-198, so that’s now 9 out of 17 games where the Luxbet loser would have received a refund as a bonus bet!
