AFL Round 12 Preview & Betting Tips

The following are previews with betting tips for AFL Round 12 of the 2015 AFL season.

Thursday, June 18

Adelaide vs Hawthorn

7:50PM AEST, Adelaide Oval

This is Adelaide’s moment to stamp their authority on the competition. A win here would do wonders for their season. It won’t be easy but it would be immense, both in terms of confidence and ladder positioning; it would propel them right into top four contention.

I have a feeling that the two Adelaide based teams love playing on the big stage of Thursday/Friday night, especially at home in front of their adoring fans. I reckon this will be a really great game, and I’ve got a sneaky feeling that the Crows might cause a big upset. Their best is capable of matching it with anyone, but they’ll need big games from Sloane, Dangerfield, and especially the captain, big Tex Walker, if they’re to beat the Hawks. Tex has been quiet for a few weeks now, but this just might be the game he tears apart.

Betting tip: 1 unit – Crows to win @ $3.19 (Pinnacle)

Richmond vs West Coast

7:50PM AEST, MCG

Another huge game of footy for two finals aspirants. Can the Tigers add another win to their streak? As we all witnessed last year, they’re a team who likes getting on a roll, and they’re hard to stop when they do.

The Eagles will be a big challenge for them however; they’re playing great footy and they’ve got a forward line that is tough to contain. Josh Kennedy and Mark LeCras are in sizzling form, and now with Jack Darling back they form one of the best forward lines in the game. I reckon this one will be a really close contest but I’m leaning towards the Tigers, mainly because of the MCG factor.

Betting tip: 1 unit – Tigers to win @ $1.82 (Matchbook)

Saturday, June 20

Carlton vs Port Adelaide

1:40PM AEST, MCG

Port Adelaide’s season is well and truly on the rocks following their loss to the Cats last Friday night. I think they can rule out a top four spot, now they just need to focus on actually making the finals. I’m not sure what’s going on with them, because their best is as good as anyone, and they’ve shown it at times this year, but they can’t seem to do it consistently. Maybe the other teams have worked them out, but still, when they play that blistering style of footy, it doesn’t matter if the opponent knows it’s coming, it’s impossible to stop.

Carlton are fresh from the bye, while Port had a game last week. They’ve had an 8 day break however, so you wouldn’t think it will make too much difference. The Blues aren’t really going to provide a great test for the Power, but it does give them a chance to iron out a few kinks in their game and grow some confidence, as you’d expect they should have an easy win.

Betting tip: 2 units – Power by 25+ @ $2.02 (Luxbet)

GWS Giants vs North Melbourne

4:35PM AEST, Spotless Stadium

This game will tell us a lot about both of these sides; whether they are genuine finals threats or just making up the numbers. The Giants are coming back from a really disappointing effort against the Pies, while the Kangaroos were humbled by the Swans. Unfortunately for GWS, as well as being crushed on the scoreboard, they were savagely hit by injuries at the ‘G. The loss of big Shane Mumford will have a massive impact on their ability to win the ball from the clearances and will make the Giants a much less formidable opponent. I think the Kangaroos will take advantage and have a good solid win up in Sydney.

Betting tip: 1 unit – Kangaroos by 25+ @ $2.50 (Sportsbet)

Western Bulldogs vs Brisbane

7:20PM AEST, Etihad Stadium

This is a big game for the Bulldogs. They’ve beaten some good teams this year, but have struggled at times against opponents they should beat. They lost to the Saints and the Demons and now they’ve got a great opportunity to atone for those poor performances against the Lions.

These are two young teams going head to head and I’m expecting it to be an entertaining game of footy. Both sides are relatively good through the middle of the ground but can struggle to find strong scoring options. The side who does that best should get the four points, and I think the Bulldogs should get over the line at home.

Betting tip: 1 unit – Dogs by 25+ @ $1.97 (Centrebet)

Sunday, June 21

Geelong vs Melbourne

3:20PM AEST, Simonds Stadium

The Cats were really impressive last Friday night, convincingly beating Port in Adelaide. They’ve still got a lot of great players, and while they’re not as powerful as they once were, you can’t afford to take them lightly.

The Demons will be shattered after their loss to the Saints in the dying seconds. Poor communication from the coaches or just sub-standard on-field structures, whatever the reason for the loss, they’ll be breathing fire this week. The effort will definitely be there, but I think the Cats will be too good for them and the experienced Geelong stars should help them get over the line without too much trouble.

Betting tip: 1 unit – Cats by 40+ @ $2.20 (Centrebet)
