Sportsbet – Race Comments and Selections:

Race 5:
Likely four newbies here: LOVING GABY looked very good winning trial running by I AM but they both went well, close-up third Talented then won. SEATONIC and SWAN ISLAND have speed/ ability! Of the raced: LANIGERA had pressure on debut and faded late. his two recent jump outs have been excellent, he beat ART COLLECTION clearly in one then bolted in latest running clear fastest time of the morning, and, around 6L faster than SWAN ISLAND (who also looked good). BELLA ROSSA was gritty on debut and beat Lankan Star (then won) and Champagne Boom (who had beaten Lanigera on debut).
Selections: 3. Lanigera, 8. Loving Gaby, 10. Swan Island, 9. Seatonic

Race 7:
The highlight of the day is the return of speed machine NATURE STRIP. He holds MV track record and was within .1 of Flemington track record last prep. ASHLOR ran well in G1 before proving too good for ESSENCE OF TERROR last time. BONS AWAY flew home fresh last prep in fast time behind Spending To Win and Eduardo (latter then won G2). 3YO’s WRITTEN BY and ENCRYPTION create interest, they were good behind Sunlight in Coolmore, but Nature Strip destroyed Sunlight back in July so…?
Selections: 1. Nature Strip, 3. Bons Away, 4. Written By, 7. Encryption

Race 8:
SPEED: 10 looks the leader from 4, 7. TIN HAT led at a strong speed last time and kept going too well for Bravo Tango, who has run well behind Nature Strip. The race rated highly (+6L versus average). Stablemate RANIER is better performed to this juncture and at his last fresh run he beat all bar potential star Miss Fabulass. He trialled well in Sydney. RINGERDINGDING and EXTRA BRUT will be charging but is 1200m too sharp? THORONDOR, now fitter, is a key hope on his Encryption form. FUNDAMENTALIST is a class filly whose Melbourne form is all super. HALVORSEN isn’t hopeless.
Selections: 10. Tin Hat, 4. Ranier, 11. Fundamentalist, 1. Ringerdingding

Ladbrokes – Race Comments:

Race 5:
Can’t imagine one of the top two not winning. BELLA ROSA won at only start at Flemington on a soft track and rates highly with Mark Zahra aboard, genuine contender. STEAL MY KISSES coming off a win at only start at Sandown and has trialled at Werribee, if in the finish no surprise. LOVING GABY won last trial at Pakenham Park, still in this. ART COLLECTION came on strong when just beaten at only start at Flemington and drops in weight, don’t dismiss.

Race 7:
NATURE STRIP first-up after 18 week spell and resumes well running second at Caulfield when last first-up, leading hope. WRITTEN BY resumes from a 13 week spell and winner of three when first-up including a win at Caulfield last go, could threaten. BONS AWAY back from 11 week let-up and will come to hand quickly, not the worst. ASHLOR last start winner at Moonee Valley and in strong form with two wins from three attempts this campaign, capable of getting into the money.

Race 8:
FUNDAMENTALIST back from 13 week spell and generally strong first-up, well placed. POISED TO STRIKE let-up and coming off a win at Flemington on a soft track when first up, sneaky chance. EXTRA BRUT let-up for 12 weeks. Kept chasing and just missed last start in the Mackinnon Stakes, in with a chance. RINGERDINGDING can’t knock the form winning two in a row at Sandown and Flemington, could upset.

Sportsbet – Race Comments and Selections:

Race 1:
Rosehill hosts Saturday racing this week and the rail is out 3 metres. Some showers are forecast for Friday so we could certainly edge into the Soft range. We start with a couple of Group 3 2YO contests. (Yes, the first is in effect a Maiden but at least a couple of these look to have black-type quality). MCLAREN has made a huge impression at the trials, winning all three. He beat Unite And Conquer in his first heat, back in September. Two in January have only enhanced his reputation, romping in to win his latest by 7L. Clearly he has the acceleration his name would suggest. LANIGERA coasted in a Flemington jumpout on Jan 11 and has the use of barrier 1.
Selections: 7. Mclaren, 1. Lanigera, 4. Exceed The Stars, 8. Spring Loaded

Race 2:
3 and 4 the potential leaders from these fillies. BLAZING MISS can pozzie handy if she can get out of the gates better than she did in a recent trial. I was taken with the trial of ROTATOR earlier this week and respect that she is backing up so quickly from it. Hopefully she can see more room than she did around here on Tuesday; she seemed to have a lot to offer! AVON RIVER runner-up on both occasions and sets up nicely in running for sure. Stablemate AMERCEMENT drew the outside in the Gimcrack and inside here. Both recent trials have been here at Rosehill and very sound. MAYAASEH also out of the Gimcrack in early season.
Selections: 9. Rotator, 1. Avon River, 6. Amercement, 5. Mayaaseh

Race 6:
A small but select field and I’m glad it’s our first quaddie leg because it’s a real decision for some to go one-out or not. DOTHRAKI hasn’t made a recent habit of leading but he could the frontrunner here. TRAPEZE ARTIST won this race last year (admittedly a lesser version) and everything he has done since recommends him well. A recent trial was good enough. ALIZEE has trialed very impressively since her return win. She was undoubtedly impressive at Randwick post-Christmas but there are tougher horses up against her today and to be honest I was slightly put off by an early market that had her in the red.
Selections: 2. Trapeze Artist, 6. Alizee, 3. Le Romain, 1. Hartnell

Betfair – Race Analysis & Selections:

Race 1:
1. Mclaren (5 stars)
2. Exceed The Stars (5 stars)
3. Lanigera (4 stars)

Ladbrokes – Race Comments:

Race 1:
Hard race to enthuse with so little exposed form. MCLAREN undefefeated in three lead-up trials, tough to beat. EXCEED THE STARS resumes from an 18 week spell and placed in all three trials, still in this. LANIGERA resumes from a 16 week spell and finished in the middle of the pack at only start at Caulfield, place only. SPRING LOADED first starter and placed in both trials, place claims.

Race 2:
AVON RIVER has placed in both races run, leading hope. AMERCEMENT resumes from an 18 week spell and trialling strongly, don’t treat lightly. BLAZING MISS back from let-up and trial in the 49 days since last run could help, capable of getting into the money. INTREPIDACIOUS led all the way to win at only start at Canterbury on a soft track and placed in last trial at Warwick Farm, place only.

Race 6:
TRAPEZE ARTIST back after 16 week break. Placed at Rosehill when last fresh and won two of four first-up, will take the power of beating. ALIZEE strong finishing effort to win last start at Randwick when first up and can’t knock the form winning two in a row at Randwick, for the exotics. HARTNELL first-up after 13 week spell and winner of two when first-up including ran second at Caulfield last go, capable of getting into the money with a bit of luck. LE ROMAIN first-up after 13 week break. Won at Randwick when last fresh and won three of seven first-up, outside hope.
