Race 6, No.2 The Captain – 3.5 stars

bet365 – Suggested Play:

Race 6: Clever Tommy

BetEasy – Race Synopsis:

Race 6:
CLEVER TOMMY (11) made the hat-trick by a space second up jumping to Open grade. He keeps improving and may control this from the rail. He can go right on with it on the 7-day return. CAPTAIN PUNCH (1) returned near his best and has won a trial by a space since. The former Victorian can certainly win, but has to manage the outside gate. EL TORANADO (3) led just beating the above and impressed. He draws to advantage and is a genuine hope. THE CAPTAIN (2) led and blitzed the Open graders resuming as a hot favourite. Davis sticks with Captain Punch, but expect him to be right in it using the handy draw.

BetEasy – The King’s Tips:

Race 6:
2. The Captain (3 stars)
10. Quantum Dot (3 stars)
7. Brooklyn (3 stars)
11. Clever Tommy (3 stars)

Sportsbet – Race Comments and Selections:

Race 6:
Golly gosh, and/or gee whiz. What a super sprint. Expect CLEVER TOMMY to fire through and attempt to hold the lead. This is his toughest test to date, but he is absolutely flying at present. THE CAPTAIN bolted in when fresh and has a super record at this track. CAPTAIN PUNCH should come across and either attempt to take the lead from Clever Tommy, or sit outside that runner. His fresh run was excellent and his second-up stats are great. EL TORANADO beat Captain Punch. He had the wood on that runner fitness-wise, but is another that is racing in fine form. STREET LIFE could be the smokey. He is a talented gelding, that has been competitive in good grade in SA. He has been close up at his last five and is racing well.
Selections: 11. Clever Tommy, 2. The Captain, 1. Captain Punch, 14. Street Life

Unibet – Race Comments:

Race 6:
THE CAPTAIN (2) Put a gap on the rest when winning last run at this track and second up. Has shown early pace in races to date. Rates well in this race. CAPTAIN PUNCH (1) Came in 2nd last run at this track and second up from a break. Will be pushing for a forward position early. The one they all have to beat. CLEVER TOMMY (11) Going well this campaign winning 2 from as many starts and third up from a spell. Pulled away to win last start at this track. Winning hope. EL TORANADO (3) Did enough to win last time here and will be positive in the run early. Going well this campaign. Place chance.

Ladbrokes – Race Comments:

Race 6:
Hard to split the top two picks. CLEVER TOMMY winner of three in a row after last start win at Darwin and drawn the rails, commands respect. CAPTAIN PUNCH was narrowly beaten as a favourite last start at Darwin when resuming and has the speed to overcome a very wide draw, can figure. THE CAPTAIN last start winner at Darwin when resuming and a track specialist winning five times at the track, don’t dismiss. STREET LIFE 5 from six wins have been in the dry and carrying less weight, place chance.

Race 6: The Statesman
Race 7: Masculino
Race 8: Tavisan
Race 9: Non Paear

BetEasy – Race Synopsis:

Race 6:
THE STATESMAN (1) chased a good one last time. Went there without a run at the trip under his belt so that can bring him right on. Plenty more to come from him and this looks within his range. MIRIMAR (4) is a good talent and racing in top form. Still improving and his form around the likes of Future Score rates highly. MORE THAN EVER (6) will find this tougher but comes across from SA with winning form. Respect him and respect the likely leader SOCIAL ELEMENT (2) who certainly stays well. ORMITO (5) should be coming to his top and gets Oliver now. That’s a big tick.

Race 7:
MASCULINO (4) has just sound one better at his latest couple. Rock solid efforts and the latest was in a race that rates highly. Top jock switches aboard now and he should settle right up in the firing line. Takes a power of beating. BEDFORD (7) has recaptured his best and three weeks out to this trip looks ideal off his latest Caulfield win. INVERLOCH (8) should get a great run on speed and won really well last time. Trip seems right for him. TWILIGHT RUN (10) is ready for this tougher assignment and looks the other key chance.

Race 8:
TAVISAN (9) resumed from a spell and despite being very easy in the betting he ran right away to win well. He’s always been a talent and based on that he is ready to put it all together this time around. 1200m can suit better. ROX THE CASTLE (7) had a fantastic summer preparation and he resumes with a good winning hope in this. Similarly AGE OF CHIVALRY (13) came a long way last time around and while he will definitely be better for this return run he has to be taken seriously. Big talent. SHERIFF JOHN STONE (10) and USAIN BOWLER (11) are going to be around the mark in this grade as they invariably are.

Race 9:
NON PAEAR (6) finds an ideal race to follow on from his win last time. In-form apprentice can just drop her in behind the pace from the inside alley and just needs some clear air at the right time to charge into the finish. She really put them away last time in what was a career best and she’s still lightly raced. EXCELTARA (4) is a terrific chance on form and liked her fresh form last campaign. Query is the wide draw but top jock is on to help offset that. MOOR WANTED (5) should continue to race well. No draw issues for him. QUEEN ANNABEL (9) and ALUF (3) are others for the shortlist in an even contest.

BetEasy – The King’s Tips:

Race 6:
6. More Than Ever (3 stars)
10. Jinda (3 stars)
4. Mirimar (3 stars)
2. Social Element (3 stars)

Race 7:
4. Masculino (5 stars)
7. Bedford (3 stars)
9. Dylan’s Romance (3 stars)
10. Twilight Run (3 stars)

Race 8:
1. Highland Beat (3 stars)
9. Tavisan (3 stars)
5. Labuan Star (3 stars)
14. Beautiful Flyer (3 stars)

Race 9:
11. Perfect Statue (3 stars)
6. Non Paear (3 stars)
8. Forbid Me Not (3 stars)
3. Aluf (3 stars)

Sportsbet – Race Comments and Selections:

Race 6:
SPEED: 2 may lead 1. 4, 7, 8, 10, 11 can all be handy though. THE STATESMAN was quickly to 2500m third up last time and battled well behind a promising one. SAN REMO worked early that same race, was one of the better runs and must have a case. SOCIAL ELEMENT is back in trip but back in class here and can win. MIRIMAR has the Future Score form. That horse went to Flemington and won recently. MORE THAN EVER is on the up. That was his first go at 2400m last time and he won well. Fourth was Flow Meter, who has been running well in these Saturday staying races in Victoria.
Selections: 1. The Statesman, 6. More Than Ever, 2. Social Element, 4. Mirimar

Race 7:
SPEED genuine with 8,9 leading 2,4 with 1,3,5 handy. TWILIGHT RUN is the promising new season 4YO and can measure up here off a strong win Flemington when only 2nd-up. MASCULINO was just no match for the winner that same day but beat third (LAST WEEK) easily and his race did rate much higher on the day than the Twilight Run event so? BEDFORD is flying and drier ground, 2000m are not queries. AL GALAYEL is fitter here and an improver, he beat Masculino when they clashed last prep. NAVAL WARFARE hit the line sweetly fresh.
Selections: 10. Twilight Run, 4. Masculino, 7. Bedford, 3. Al Galayel

Race 8:
I am an AGE OF CHIVALRY fan, he was no match for Assertive Approach in recent jump out but went well. He was very raw last prep yet measured up with group-class 3yo’s. TAVISAN returned gelded Hillside and had pressure yet was too strong, his 1200m form includes placings to Brutal (G1 winner) and Encryption (G1 placed). USAIN BOWLER flew home in some very slick sectionals fresh at 1000m despite coming to the outside in a race where the trifecta all stayed inside. ROX THE CASTLE is another promising horse, he had excuses the day Usain Bowler flew by him at Flem. ARROW LANE & HIGHLAND BEAT hopes.
Selections: 13. Age Of Chivalry, 11. Usain Bowler, 9. Tavisan, 7. Rox The Castle

Race 9:
Good speed on paper. EXCELTARA can win fresh if the 1000m isn’t too sharp. MOOR WANTED is going super of late up the straight but both his runs here have been good. CONDOR HEROES jumped out very well. QUEEN ANNABEL comes back from a close-up sixth to a couple of borderline stakes-class horses and that race rated super. NON PAEAR has MV form. I assume gate 1 is still OK? SAM’S IMAGE a hope also.
Selections: 9. Queen Annabel, 4. Exceltara, 7. Condor Heroes, 6. Non Paear

Betfair – Race Selections:

2. Mirimar (5 stars)
3. More Than Ever (5 stars)

2. Bedford (4 stars)
3. Inverloch (4 stars)

Race 8:
1. Tavisan (5 stars)
2. Rox The Castle (5 stars)
3. Age Of Chivalry (4 stars)

Race 9:
1. Non Paear (5 stars)
2. Exceltara (4 stars)
3. Moor Wanted (5 stars)

Ladbrokes – Race Comments:

Race 6:
MORE THAN EVER (6) Won last time at Morphettville but has more weight to carry here. Jockey Jamie Kah and trainer Tony Mcevoy have shared plenty of success together. Serious player. THE STATESMAN (1) Made considerable ground when 2nd last run at Flemington and going down in grade. Teodore Nugent usually rides well for the Ciaron Maher And David Eustace stable. Among better hopes. MIRIMAR (4) Chimed in with a win last time at Sandown. Been in the money 6 from 7 attempts this preparation. Can give this a shake. SOCIAL ELEMENT (2) Competitive effort when 2nd last time at Eagle Farm and looks well graded here. Will be pushing for a forward position early. Worth entertaining from a place and exotics perspective.

Race 7:
TWILIGHT RUN (10) Showed promise when winning last time at Flemington and jockey Beau Mertens rates highly. Has a nice turn of foot. Big chance. MASCULINO (4) Left nothing to chance when winning three runs back at Caulfield and drawn well. Will be pushing for a forward position early. Genuine threat. BEDFORD (7) Really dug deep when winning last time at Caulfield and can go through the gears. Going well this preparation. Respect against this field. AL GALAYEL (3) Can go through the gears. Was 4.3L from the winner at Flemington last time but third up. Each way.

Race 8:
TAVISAN (9) Solid effort when winning last start at Sandown and expecting to settle positively. Right in this. AGE OF CHIVALRY (13) Won narrowly three runs back at Sandown and shows good early pace. Well placed and has solid claims. USAIN BOWLER (11) Should be swooping on the field late. Strong run when 5th last run at Flemington and second up from a break. Key hope. ROX THE CASTLE (7) Won narrowly last time at this venue and won’t be far away during the run. Could prove to be very difficult to beat.

Race 9:
CONDOR HEROES (7) Racing fresh after a break. Was average finishing 8th last time at this track. Can bounce back and will run close. NON PAEAR (6) Finished on top last time at Pakenham and should race on the speed. Going well this campaign. Worth a ticket here. EXCELTARA (4) Fresh here. Only whacked away when 11th last start at Flemington. possess the talent and has a chance here. FREEZE OVER (15) Races well fresh winning 2 from 3 runs. Kept finding the line when 3rd three runs back at this course but facing a stronger grade here. Very strong each way claims.

Race 7: Firsthand and Milk Man
Race 8: Costello each-way
Race 9: Drachenfels each-way

BetEasy – Race Synopsis:

Race 6:
ATTENTION RUN (1) could not have been more impressive in her Australian debut, winning at this course over the mile on heavy ground against the boys. Will be fitter for the run and drops back to her own sex. Faces a weight rise however does get that offset with a 2kg claim. LIGHT EXCEED (10) is chasing a third straight win after successes at Kembla Grange and Canterbury. Should be hard fit at this stage of her prep. WAKING MOMENT (9) returns to her own sex after disappointing when well tried over 2000m at Rosehill last start. Form overall since switching to the Chris Waller stable has been good. TORYJOY (3) had to be ridden upside down last start when always well back in the field over 1800m at Randwick. Can ideally jump on terms and work over to be prominent from a wide gate.

Race 7:
HAUNTED (7) drops in grade after contesting the Ramornie last start. Performed below market expectations there however was still running on well. FIRSTHAND (1) disappointed last start in the Winter Stakes. Suspect he will be an improver back in grade and on firmer ground. French import MILK MAN (5) is a horse of obvious interest. Was stakes placed in France over ten furlongs. Will likely be better suited over a mile and beyond however class alone can see him a long way in this. FORTENSKY (4) has placed in his two runs this prep. Backs up after a second to Foxy Housewife at Rosehill last Saturday. Favourably drawn and has won first up in the past.

Race 8:
COSTELLO (6) showed good improvement second up when placing behind Dr Drill at this course, class and distance a fortnight ago. Will be fitter again and won his lone prior third up outing. Has some real upside about him. CYBER INTERVENTION (7) has finished second in his two runs so far this prep. Kept ticking over since his latest outing with a Warwick Farm trial. PRIMITIVO (2) is racing consistently. Gets reunited with James McDonald with the pair winning their lone outing in partnership. ULUSABA (10) appeals down in the weights off a midweek win at Canterbury. Should land in front with minimal fuss from barrier 1. MATOWI (12) has each way appeal off a last start placing at this course and distance. EXASPERATE (9) has been racing consistently in Victoria. Heads up the highway and gets Bowman in the saddle.

Race 9:
Open race to round out proceedings. DRACHENFELS (1) has been a combination of unlucky and frustrating this campaign. Has a few changes going into this which could potentially prove positive, namely getting back on firmer ground and having the Blinkers reapplied. Has the strongest form lines in this field and is worth a good look if his each way quote holds up. JACK’S BAR (5) finished just ahead of Drachenfels last start at Rosehill. Was ridden more positively on that occasion and responded to it well. JUDGE JUDI (10) has commenced her latest campaign well. Consistent and well drawn. THE PARTY GIRL (11) was finding the line well last start. THY KINGDOM COME (2) rounds out the main chances.

BetEasy – The King’s Tips:

6. No Escape (4 stars)
5. Jack’s Bar (3 stars)
10. Judge Judi (3 stars)

Sportsbet – Race Comments and Selections:

Race 6:
4 chooses to run earlier but 1, 2 and 5 remained dual acceptors at preview time. ATTENTION RUN goes up beyond 60 kilos, even with Clenton claiming 2kg. If we presume the upside from the first-up win is there she should be able to cope with that. Stablemate MILSEAIN showed speed on return and I thought the run overall was worth a pass mark. Expect improvement if here instead of Coffs Harbour on Thursday (where she was second fave to a stablemate that also accepted for today). LIGHT EXCEED the lightly raced 4YO on an upward trajectory.
Selections: 1. Attention Run, 10. Light Exceed, 2. Milseain, 9. Waking Moment

Race 7:
MILK MAN led throughout in his latest trial and may adopt that role here also. He comes to us with some expectation I think. He’s even got some Avilius form at Chantilly from a couple of years ago. I want him as a winner for me but there’s no wet track evidence as yet (that winning trial was on dry). FORTENSKY has come back with two honest runs and could set up perfectly in running but he hasn’t won for a long while now. HAUNTED has started favourite 11 times from 15 (and $2.90 in another) so, with McEvoy first time, he is going to have his share of fans here.
Selections: 4. Fortensky, 5. Milk Man, 2. Haunted, 1. Firsthand

Race 8:
5 and 3 to head forward. 10 and 9 may press up as well. CYBER INTERVENTION the presumed favourite after two runs that put together just scream ‘back me next time’. He’s even gone back and had a nice little trial last week and he won here 3rd-up last prep. It all looks promising but I’m wary of him being short here so went looking for an old friend. MONSiEUR SISU was disappointing last start but may now want a bit of extra distance, and he is likely back onto Heavy as well. COSTELLO has some similarities to CYBER INTERVENTION in terms of where he’s at in his prep and what he’s done 3rd-up in the past.
Selections: 3. Monsieur Sisu, 7. Cyber Intervention, 6. Costello, 2. Primitivo

Race 9:
This definitely shapes as a tricky closing race but I’m happy to head down the bottom to a mare that has raced consistently throughout her current campaign and in fact has barely offered a poor run across her whole career. THE PARTY GIRL can be slow out at times so she may have a bank of horses ahead of her coming to the bend but I’ll put my trust in McEvoy in that regard, and the belief that the inside going won’t be terrible for her, even at this late stage. DRACHENFELS will be running on solidly as well while JACK’S BAR and THY KINGDOM COME have claims from closer up.
Selections: 11. The Party Girl, 1. Drachenfels, 5. Jack’s Bar, 2. Thy Kingdom Come

Betfair – Race Selections:

Race 6:
1. Attention Run (5 stars)
2. Light Exceed (4 stars)
3. Waking Moment (3 stars)

Race 7:
Haunted (5 stars)
Firsthand (5 stars)
Milk Man (4 stars)

Race 8:
1. Costello (5 stars)
2. Cyber Intervention (5 stars)
3. Primitivo (3 stars)

Race 9:
1. Drachenfels (5 stars)
2. Jack’s Bar (4 stars)
3. Judge Judi (4 stars)

Ladbrokes – Race Comments:

Race 6:
ATTENTION RUN (1) Second up. Fought on gamely when winning last time at this venue but will have to carry more weight. One of the better chances. WAKING MOMENT (9) Displayed good finishing speed when 2nd two runs back at Rosehill and gets a favourable draw. Expected to be flashing home. Worth a ticket. LIGHT EXCEED (10) Got the upper hand late when winning last run at Canterbury and displays good tactical speed. Very competitive this campaign. This field suits. TORYJOY (3) Did enough to win two runs back at Rosehill. Well placed and has solid claims.

Race 7:
HAUNTED (2) Stormed home when 3rd three runs back at Morphettville but carrying more weight than last time. Should get going late. This suits. FORTENSKY (4) Third up from a spell. Came in 2nd last run at Rosehill and gets a favourable gate. Prominent showing expected and won’t be far off them. BANGKOK (8) Winner last start at the track and strong form at the distance. Can give this a shake. FIRSTHAND (1) Placed 2nd two runs back at Rosehill and back in an easier grade. Looks set to run a place.

Race 8:
CYBER INTERVENTION (7) Third up. Really dug deep when winning three runs back at Rosehill. Main hope. COSTELLO (6) Having third run back from a spell. Snuck in a place when 2nd last run at this course but will have to carry more weight. Respect against this field. PRIMITIVO (2) Solid win two runs back at this course. Expected to be flashing home. Right in the thick of it here and is a major player. EXASPERATE (9) Left nothing to chance when winning two runs back at Sandown and will be trying to topple them late. Been in the money 8 from 9 attempts this campaign. Should take beating.

Race 9:
JACK’S BAR (5) Brave effort to win three runs back at Warwick Farm. Shows good early pace. Key player. JUDGE JUDI (10) Third up from a spell. Fought on gamely when winning two runs back at Canterbury. No shock to see a win. DRACHENFELS (1) Rocketed home into 3rd two runs back at Rosehill. Jockey Nash Rawiller is in top form for this camp. Expected to fight out the finish. THY KINGDOM COME (2) Was first to greet the judge when winning three runs back at Rosehill and second up. Suitably placed in this race.
