BetEasy – Race Synopsis:

Race 4:
POHUTUKAWA (5) ran well first up at Newcastle where she was ridden off a very steady tempo. They ripped home there and she just petered out on the run late. Could be a sharp improver with that run under the belt. She’s top pick ahead of FIDELIA (8) who has set herself up to peak third time out. Two very solid closing efforts this time in. She will want the mile soon enough but her closing burst will see her rattling at these. SPANISH WHISPER (2) beat her home in the lead up and will make her own luck. Has a hope again. SAVATIANO (4) should run well here first up with her best ratings right in the mix against these and ANGELIC RULER (6) could improve sharply up to 1400m which is her trip.

Race 6:
SUNLIGHT (7) has a terrific record on the back up and a terrific record down the straight. She was left chasing the whole way around the 1000m in the Moir last week and based on that she is desperate for 1200m now. Gets it and think she can make the most of her fitness edge on SANTA ANA LANE (1). He’s clearly a big threat regardless. Top sprinter around and while his fresh record says that he typically takes a run we are only two weeks out from his destination. Got to be around the mark. ZOUTORI (4) is a cut below that duo but nice winning return here and should run well. DOTHRAKI (2) is a non-winner but he is never far away and his run here last time but typically good.

Race 7:
MR QUICKIE (3) powered home between horses in the Makybe Diva and his performance there says that he has come back an even better horse this time around. This can be his ideal trip and he should take a power of stopping now. Finished fast onto the back of MYSTIC JOURNEY (4) there and she has to show that she can stretch it out to 2000m now. Nothing wrong with her form this time in and she gives the impression that she can stay the trip. Not convinced she can improve for it though. FINCHE (6) will want further soon enough but strong win last time and will run well again. HARTNELL (1) keeps turning up and racing well. No reason to expect the old champ to turn it in now. ROSTROPOVICH (5) ran well fresh. On track for the spring.

Race 8:
SURPRISE BABY (3) gets here quickly from the mile but that was the plan all along and we know that he stays well. Thought he was terrific short of his trip first up and his form last campaign was terrific. Deserves a spot in the Cup and can book his ticket today. Not a soft race by any means, though, and KING OF LEOGRANCE (9) is certainly ready to win one after a pair of good efforts leading in. No luck at all last time and think he should have won there. ALFARRIS (6) got the job done there and has a hope again. No match for Surprise Baby in the autumn however. TE AKAU CALIBURN (12) was the best closer from the back but never threatened. ETYMOLOGY (7) has a hope.

Race 9:
MIAMI BOUND (7) is a nice horse in the making and this looks an early spring target on her home track. She was really good at Bendigo up to the mile last time. Powered through the line there and left the impression that there is plenty more to come. SUBPOENAED (11) comes off the top fillies form up in Sydney. Beat the Oaks Trial winner before an even effort in a really hot race last time. Step back in class and up in trip both look positives. DESERVED (3) can peak third up. Think the mile is what she is looking for now. EXCUSED (6) should run well again and REALLY DISCREET (9) looks a blow out at odds. Did enough against the colts last time.

Sportsbet – Race Comments and Selections:

Race 4:
SPEED: 9 leads 10. 2 trails. 3,4,11 handy. SPANISH WHIPSER gave 3kg to FIDELIA and beat her in Let’s Elope here, Fidelia was unlucky when held up key stage off modest tempo, she broke 11 seconds her last 200m. MY PENDANT ran on well behind them. 7th was Princess Jenni who won G2 Stocks Stks last Friday Night’. POHUTUKAWA was back and wide fresh at Newcastle then closed off nicely, her 2nd-up form is excellent and she beat SAVATIANO the last time they clashed, at 1400m. CELEBRITY DREAM hit the line in Syd trial, WA form keeps stacking up. ANGELIC RULER went super fresh. HAUT BRION HER has weight swing on FABRIC who has Fidelia form.
Selections: 8. Fidelia, 5. Pohutukawa, 2. Spanish Whisper, 6. Angelic Ruler

Race 6:
SANTA ANA LANE always improves off a fresh run, in saying that, his 1st-up runs have been far from ”average”. In fact, in his latest he charged late to be 1.4L off SUNLIGHT in the Newmarket Hcp giving her 8kg. This race is set-weights and penalties which suits him big time. Sunlight will be tough to run over here out to 1200m though. ZOUTORI was a brilliant winner fresh in slick time but this weight scale does not suit him. HOME OF THE BRAVE was far from disgraced in red hot Shorts in Sydney. TYZONE flies fresh and trialled very well up north. I AM EXCITED won this last year, forgive the fresh miss.
Selections: 1. Santa Ana Lane, 7. Sunlight, 5. Tyzone, 4. Zoutori

Race 7:
SPEED: 2 leads. 10,9,4,1,6 handy. MYSTIC JOURNEY was beaten for first time in near 13 months in Makybe Diva but she ran very well and was 2nd-up and a month between runs. This is her first go 2000m but no reason to doubt her, she was very strong beating HARTNELL here in All-Star mile off a wide run. MR QUICKIE’s fresh run was phenomenal, way back, held up then flew at the line running 10.8 last 200m (fastest all day) off strong speed. All his 2nd-up form is excellent. VOW AND DECLARE was better than him in Qld Derby then thrashed older horses so, it lines up. ROSTROPOVICH next. 7 a hope if here.
Selections: 3. Mr Quickie, 4. Mystic Journey, 5. Rostropovich, 12. Vow And Declare

Race 8:
WOLFE probably leads but a number of these can be handy. SURPRISE BABY made a cracking return in Feehan at 1600m, he is sharply to 2520m second-up which is normally a red flag for punters, but this is no garden variety racehorse. Wolfe had no luck last time, he lost his spot then cut back to the rail, he may well have won it and he crossed the line with Steel Prince who, of course, beat Surprise Baby in the Ramsden here. TE AKAU CALIBURN ran on hard here in on-pace race at his Oz debut. KING OF LEOGRANCE was unlucky there. Expecting better from SUPERNOVA.
Selections: 3. Surprise Baby, 10. Wolfe, 12. Te Akau Caliburn, 9. King Of Leogrance

Race 9:
SPEED: 6,14 from 2,12,8 and 3 handy? SUBPOENAED had backing in the Tea Rose behind the elite 3yo fillies but alas, she was posted wide so we didn’t get much guide. She beat Celestial Falls (won Oaks trial) and Exotic Ruby (placed to Pandemic) prior when coming from way back off a slow speed. MIAMI BOUND is a good filly. She went to Bendigo and easily beat Frazil who was then 3.3L off Celestial Falls in that Oaks trial. AFFAIR TO REMEMBER was making very good ground at Caulfield when her luck ran out, she still managed 11.40 last 200m, clear race fastest! BONVICINI looked good in Adelaide to 1600.
Selections: 11. Subpoenaed, 7. Miami Bound, 17. Affair To Remember, 2. Bonvicini

Ladbrokes – Race Comments:

Race 4:
FIDELIA (8) Was fighting out the finish when winning three runs back at this course and third up from a spell. Should be swooping on the field late. Expect bold showing and to run very well. SAVATIANO (4) Should be ready to fire fresh with 3 wins from 5 starts. Scored a victory two runs back at Eagle Farm and should race on the speed. Include in chances. ANGELIC RULER (6) Showed a good turn of foot when 2nd last run at Caulfield and should get going late. Keep in mind. POHUTUKAWA (5) Generally strong second up with 2 wins from 3 attempts. Nearly grabbed a win when 2nd two runs back at Eagle Farm and shows very good finishing speed. Each way prospects.

Race 6:
SANTA ANA LANE (1) Made a mess of them when winning two runs back at Randwick and will be motoring home late. The one to beat. SUNLIGHT (7) Has a good record third up. Has top form at the 2 wins from 4 starts and suited at this trip historically. Looks a worthwhile proposition today. ZOUTORI (4) Displayed potential when winning last run at this course and will be hitting the line strongly. Expect to go close. HOME OF THE BRAVE (3) Races well second up winning 3 from 6 attempts. Fell back to finish 5th last run at Randwick. Don’t dismiss.

Race 7:
MYSTIC JOURNEY (4) Surprising result when 2nd in the Makybe Diva last start but should further improve from the run. Rates well. MR QUICKIE (3) Produced a real blackbook run first up in the Makybe Diva when motoring home to run 3rd. Can win here. FINCHE (6) Strong performance when winning the Kingston Town and will be rock hard fit now. Not out of this. HARTNELL (1) Keeps racing well without winning. Worthy of being included in your exotics.

Race 8:
SURPRISE BABY (3) Having second run back from a spell. Charged home into 2nd two runs back around here and expected to be flashing home. Looks hard to beat on bare form alone. KING OF LEOGRANCE (9) Caught the eye when 3rd two runs back at Moonee Valley. Keep in mind. WOLFE (10) Finished on top three runs back at Randwick and has minimal work to do from the barrier. Has shown early pace in races to date. Capable of getting into the money. VENTURA STORM (4) Did well to place 2nd last time at this venue and will try to take advantage of the draw. One for the exotics punters

Race 9:
MIAMI BOUND (7) Chimed in with a win last run at Bendigo and third up today. Has not missed this preparation with 2 wins from 2 runs. Has genuine claims in this race. SUBPOENAED (11) Fought on gamely when winning two runs back at Randwick. Will be motoring home late. Appears well in this. AFFAIR TO REMEMBER (17) Got the cash when winning two runs back at Geelong and will be hitting the line strongly. Has won 1 from 2 attempts this preparation. Use betting as best guide. BONVICINI (2) Got the prize when winning last time at Morphettville but racing in stronger company today. Very competitive this campaign. Up to these.

BetEasy – Race Synopsis:

Race 1:
STELLAR PAULINE (9) displayed good ability at the trials and remains a big watch on debut for Team Snowden. Well-related being the full-sister to Secret Agenda and has drawn to get the gun run. McEvoy rides and she is expected to make her presence felt. TICKET TO RIDE (11) beat home the former in her sole public trial and also commands respect. Looks above average and looms as a major threat. EVERY ROSE (2) won her sole trial in good style and is sure to have her supporters, while FALL ON A STAR (3) appears the next in line.

Race 2:
BEYLIKS (4) hasn’t fared the best at the barrier draw, but does appear the best horse in this line up. Loved his sole trial running good time and looked to do it easily. Bowman takes over and he should prove very strong late. His Mum Ottoman was quite the talent. BELIEBER (3) was ridden out to win his trial, but ran good time and certainly zipped home. Sure to press forward and be in this for a long way. GLOBAL QUEST (7) looked stylish winning his trial and is expected to measure up, along with NITROUS (10).

Race 4:
FUNSTAR (1) did plenty wrong in the Tea Rose Stakes, but still managed to get away with the win (albeit narrowly). Always felt she would be at her best at a mile and possibly beyond. The small field makes it tricky, however she has the best turn of foot and remains the one to beat. PROBABEEL (2) relished the solidly run 1400m last start when really launching late. Unlikely to get a similar tempo here which is a concern, however she too should be at her peak and looms as the only danger. ST COVET’S SPIRIT (4) and FOXBOROUGH (5) the next best, but doubt they see which way the first two went.

Race 5:
CLASSIQUE LEGEND (2) went super in The Shorts when given his first real test. Conceded a run to both Pierata and Redzel and certainly held his own, only beaten half a length. Sure to improve with that run under his belt and is clearly the one to beat. OSBORNE BULLS (1) has been held back for this race with just the sole public trial under his belt (06/08). Went enormous there and looks to be back better than ever, though he’ll need to be. GRAFF (5) continues to race well and has to be included, while BRUTAL (6) creates a bit of interest fresh, though this appears a prep run.

Race 6:
VERRY ELLEEGANT (9) did so much wrong in the George Main Stakes but still stuck on well to finish fourth. Gets out to 2000m and should be nearing her peak racing third up. Draw doesn’t make it easy, but if JMac can get her to settle early, she should be very strong late. ANGEL OF TRUTH (6) has been solid enough in two runs back this time in and he too should relish the step up in trip. Nash takes over and is expected to be there for a long way. SAMADOUBT (1) came off his peak last start, but is more than capable, while YOUNGSTAR (8) can also improve.

Race 7:
KOLDING (9) has won 5/6 since been gelded in February and arguably should have gone close first up when no luck behind Dreamforce. Was clearly headed last start in the Bill Ritchie before fighting back to score narrowly. This has always been the Grand Final and he appears very well placed at the weights. Middle draw keeps him out of trouble and with the Bossman on, he should prove hard to beat. CASCADIAN (15) has been solid enough in two runs in Australia and should be at his top racing third up. Peak form from France leaves him very well placed, if he produces that level of form, he is sure to be in the finish. DREAMFORCE (1) is up against it at the weights, but is in career best form and looms as a major threat. TE AKAU SHARK (4) is likely to get a long way back, but should be storming home late.

Race 8:
BRIMHAM ROCKS (12) bounced back in a big way at Caulfield last start when spacing his rivals over 2000m. Started 7/2 favourite in this race last year and only went down narrowly. Only rises 1.5kg and is arguably going better this time around. Drawn to get a lovely run for McEvoy and appears well placed to go back to back. SCARLET DREAM (15) found the line well in a slowly run affair last start and is sure to appreciate the step up in trip. Second placing in the ATC Oaks last prep leaves her very well placed. STAMPEDE (5) is in career best form and is sure to take some catching, while NEUFBOSC (4) is the big sleeper. Lightly raced and more than capable on his prior best form in France.

Sportsbet – Race Comments and Selections:

Race 1:
A big G1 day lies ahead and even though a couple of the feature races have attracted small fields it barely seems to detract from what will be great racing. Conditions predicted to be fine and the track will be rated Good. Rail out 3 metres today. The Gimcrack, where we see our first set of new 2YOs, starts the day. Each filly has had one official trial. From them, ORPHEUM and SHAHI were slow to jump. 10 and 12 less so but didn’t exactly leap out brightly. EVERY ROSE looked a professional sort in winning her heat in solid time and she should be able to pozzie to advantage from a low draw. STELLAR PAULINE (settle midfield, launch late?) is the high-pricer of the field, at $875,000.
Selections: 2. Every Rose, 9. Stellar Pauline, 3. Fall On A Star, 4. In Flanders

Race 2:
The Breeders’ Plate is for new male 2YOs, all of them colts at this stage of the game. Three Golden Slipper winners from the last eight (Capitalist, Vancouver, Pierro) have won this race on debut. Just note that 6 and 12 also accepted for Eagle Farm on Saturday as well. It looks a keen contest, with most of these finding on-speed pozzies in their trials. BELIEBER was asked to kick along in his hitout but I don’t mind that too much. He will step out and do good work here I’m quite sure. Stablemate POSTCODE closed nicely on the flashy chestnut NITROUS in their hitout. GLOBAL QUEST cruised to victory over the Casino-trained LAMELO. No knock on BEYLINKS or BARBARIC either.
Selections: 3. Belieber, 7. Global Quest, 10. Nitrous, 11. Postcode

Race 4:
Cripes! This has ended up wafer-thin, with the Tea Rose quinella fillies obviously holding the vast majority of the market. That much is clear but what isn’t so apparent is just how the six of them sort themselves out in run. FUNSTAR has at least settled relatively handy in her two lead-in runs but whether they all of a sudden want to lead with her is open to conjecture. PROBABEEL draws widest and may give FUNSTAR a start again but the Tea Rose was a ‘one more stride’ scenario for her and she will have her chance to wind up strongly again. There’s precious little between the top two for mine ($2.05 vs $2.10??) and the others are 100/1.
Selections: 2. Probabeel, 1. Funstar, 5. Foxborough, 4. St Covet’s Spirit

Race 5:
Potential leader HOME OF THE BRAVE also accepted for the Gilgai at Flemington. If he heads down for that then 6 leads 2, almost certainly. Out the back will be OSBORNE BULLS and after being runner-up throughout a G1 preparation earlier in the year I imagine he will have some detractors out there. I’m not one of them. At the highest level he has matched up against Nature Strip, Santa Ana Lane, Sunlight, Redzel and Pierata and beaten them. (Sure, some of them have beaten him on occasion too.) Clearly he hasn’t yet met CLASSIQUE LEGEND nor has he BRUTAL and they are his main rivals here. Both will be in front of him and will have to withstand his big finish. I’m hoping they cannot.
Selections: 1. Osborne Bulls, 2. Classique Legend, 6. Brutal, 5. Graff

Race 6:
Note firstly that BEST OF DAYS also accepts for the Epsom while VERRY ELEEGANT is in the Turnbull down at Flemington. SAMADOUBT (5:1:0 from his latest 7 on Good rated tracks) is sure to lead out. A revelation in his first two runs this prep, he was all spent at the 300m in the George Main but still fought on reasonably well, only just claimed late by ANGEL OF TRUTH and VERRY ELEEGANT. ANGEL OF TRUTH might be the one. He will relish the 2000m as much as anything here (I think) and will camp on SAMADOUBT all the way. Rawiller on and ready now is what I’m thinking. A reminder that on this day last year YOUNGSTAR ran 2nd to Winx in the Turnbull.
Selections: 6. Angel Of Truth, 1. Samadoubt, 9. Verry Elleegant

Race 7:
DREAMFORCE to jump strong and cross up front. 19 and 3 will be handy and more than likely 5 gets a lovely run not far away as well. Clear topweight and the outside gate are supposed negatives for DREAMFORCE but the last four winners of this race have carried either 56 (once) or 57 (three times). What he is attempting here is the very same as Happy Clapper in 2017 – 2nd in the Doncaster in the Autumn, win the Tramway 1st-up then 2nd to a star in the George Main. I think he’ll do it. TE AKAU SHARK does get a 3 kilo swing for a 3L defeat in the Tramway and is appealingly lightly raced. There is little doubt he represents some danger.
Selections: 1. Dreamforce, 4. Te Akau Shark, 9. Kolding, 14. Star Of The Seas

Race 8:
STAMPEDE the leader and for mine the standout best chance in the race. 2nd to Finche two weekends ago is good form for this surely then he’s backed up and had a 2400m debut and totally blitzed it. Yeah, you can knock the horses he beat but certainly not the way he did it, carrying 59 and powering on strongly right to the end. This is three Saturdays in a row of course so the challenge is there. Fancy he’s very hard to get past again though. Perhaps stablemate HUSH WRITER could be the main danger. Seems a dry track beast and rarely far away on such conditions between 2100-2500m.
Selections: 5. Stampede, 13. Hush Writer, 3. Grey Lion, 14. Attention Run

Ladbrokes – Race Comments:

Race 1:
EVERY ROSE (2) On debut for Mark Newnham 2yo by Choisir and has a good draw. Can go on with it. FALL ON A STAR (3) Kris Lees trained 2yo by Zoustar having first race start. Winnable race. STELLAR PAULINE (9) Peter And Paul Snowden 2yo debutant by Not A Single Doubt. Well placed and has solid claims. TICKET TO RIDE (11) Initial appearance for Richard And Michael Freedman 2yo by Vancouver. Suited here.

Race 2:
BEYLIKS (4) 2yo first starter by Lonhro for trainer James Cummings. Prominent showing expected and won’t be far off them. BELIEBER (3) Zoustar 2yo trained by Gai Waterhouse And Adrian Bott having first race appearance. Warrants a bet. GLOBAL QUEST (7) Chris Waller trained 2yo by More Than Ready having first race appearance. Can feature here. NITROUS (10) Deep Field 2yo on debut for trainer Peter And Paul Snowden. Among the major players

Race 4:
FUNSTAR (1) Lightly raced filly with plenty of upside. Can take the next step here. PROBABEEL (2) Eye catching run in the Tea Rose. Obvious danger to the top rater. FOXBOROUGH (5) Has shown ability but faces a much tougher task today. Place chance. ST COVET’S SPIRIT (4) Well held by the top two in the Tea Rose. Only for the multiples.

Race 5:
CLASSIQUE LEGEND (2) Second up from a spell. Winner two runs back at this track. Could prove hard to hold out. OSBORNE BULLS (1) Races well fresh winning 3 from 4 starts. Put in a competitive run when placing 2nd last start at Doomben and will be hitting the line strongly. This suits. GRAFF (5) Third up from a spell. Stormed home when 3rd two runs back at this venue and gets a favourable gate. Expected to fight out the finish. BRUTAL (6) Resuming after a spell. Handy enough when winning last time at this course but back in trip here. Key player.

Race 6:
VERRY ELLEEGANT (9) Having third run back from a spell. Scored a victory three runs back at this track and looks well placed in this grade. Looks well suited in this race. SAMADOUBT (1) Had a comfortable win two runs back here and will be positive in the run early. Tracking very well this campaign. Key hope. ANGEL OF TRUTH (6) Ran away with a win three runs back at this course and likely to be well placed early. No surprise to see a forward showing and one of the main hopes in this race. YOUNGSTAR (8) Will be motoring home late. Slipped back to finish 8th last start at this venue but dropping in class. One to watch and an each way chance

Race 7:
TE AKAU SHARK (4) Has put in two good runs so far this prep and looks ready to peak now third up. Winning claims. DREAMFORCE (1) Has top weight and outside barrier but also has the class to overcome both. Well in this. KOLDING (9) Good win in the Bill Ritchie Hcp last time out and benefits from a big drop in weight. Value play. ROCK (10) Going through his grades in impressive fashion. Harder here but can take the next step.

Race 8:
BRIMHAM ROCKS (12) Won last run at Caulfield and gets a significant drop in weight. Should go close. SCARLET DREAM (15) Made up good ground last start and will benefit from the run. Has the ability. STAMPEDE (5) Racing on a quick back up and should give them something to chase down. Can win. COME PLAY WITH ME (8) Fair run in the Kingston Town and will be better for the run. Chance at a price.
