Saturday Horse Racing Tips – February 8, 2020

The following is a survey of Australian racing tips for Saturday, February 8. The focus is on Caulfield, which features eight Group races including the Group 1 CF Orr Stakes (Race 8). More tips and previews will be added as they become available.

Note that Saturday’s Inglis Millennium day racing at Warwick Farm could switch to Rosehill if heavy rain derails the race day. Warwick Farm was rated a soft (6) when fields were released on Wednesday. Racing NSW has already moved Kembla Grange’s Saturday meeting to Newcastle.

BetEasy – Race Synopsis:

Race 2:
Terrific race. HOW WOMANTIC (2) is unbeaten in three and her win around here two back rated through the roof. Did the job well last time and she will put herself up on the speed and give herself every chance to win again. Think AQUITAINE (3) is a big threat. Knocked off last time but rated well all the same and stringing wins together before that. She’s up to this level. SCORE (5) rounded them up nicely last time. Obviously tougher but she’s set to run well. SOUTHBANK (6) and ACTING (1) resume from Thousand Guineas preps. Both will be better for this run but they have talent and upside so must respect.

Race 3:
MUNTASEERA (2) appeals here. Was well fancied and ran really well on debut behind a handy one and then went up to Sydney and hosed up with what looked plenty in hand. She’s got plenty of talent and runs here for a yard that are having big success with their juveniles this season. FRESH (4) was the eye-catcher in the Preview behind A BEAUTIFUL NIGHT (1). Both there to run well again and think Fresh is a great chance of turning the tables. GEIST (10) didn’t have the right run there and shapes a a big improver along with AWARD WINNER (6) who gets the blinkers on now and has looked a work in progress from day one.

Race 4:
All eyes on HANSEATIC (1) who is looking to back up the big win in the Preview where he put them away with a dazzling turn of speed. Followed up a smart debut there and has all the makings of a topliner now. Low draw might be interesting for him. Will need room but if he gets it he can put them away and continue his upward spiral. RULERSHIP (7) was strong on debut in Sydney and ran good overall time. Looks like getting a sweet run around the pace here and always respect the yard coming here. VALAQUENTA (9) faces a similar task. Not quite as impressive as Rulership but promising all the same winning on debut. RATHLIN (2) has raced well up north and will measure up. HARD LANDING (4) has done nothing wrong and can work into a positive spot from out wide.

Race 5:
MICROPHONE (1) was okay first up. Probably more expected of him but he started to warm to things late on in a messy race and was beaten less than three lengths on the line. Get to see him with a run under the belt now and think the return to 1400m might be what he is looking for based on the fresh effort. BANQUO (3) will also relish getting back to 1400m after a sound return over 1100m. Beaten for speed in a slowly run race there but strong through the line and he won well at this trip back in the spring. Stablemate LADY LUPINO (10) also gets up from 1100m and looks better suited. Hasn’t fired this season but her 2yo form says that she is well up to the task. WEDGETAIL (5) and WILMOT PASS (7) are fit and firing. They will run well again.

Race 6:
ANAHEED (10) looks like landing in the one-one, stalking what should be a hot speed, and that is a great spot for her. 1100m is probably as sharp as she wants but a strong tempo sets it up well for her. Very strong filly and well up to beating the older horses here. BOLD STAR (4) has been flying across the summer and have to think that she runs well again. Will be flying at the strong tempo late. So will ALL TOO ROYAL (3). Will be strong at the end. AGE OF CHIVALRY (5) will likely need this first up run but he is a good horse with upside. Interesting to see how he goes. SARTORIAL SPLENDOR (8) is fast. Missed a couple of appointments lately but no shock to see him give some cheek around here first up.

Race 7:
Weak looking edition of this race and with the right run sitting up on a gentle tempo ODEON (2) looks a great chance of adding to his Lord Stakes win from two back. Williams hops back aboard here and with his fitness edge from recent racing he should be able to give them plenty to run down. GUIZOT (5) is also up and going at the moment. Ran well in the Manifold and the Dillon and looking for the mile now. MISS SISKA (10) may well need the run but she can get into a great spot and she has the form to trouble them. As does HARLEM (1) who is probably going to need it but has peaks that the rest can’t match. Betting may be key around him off an injury enforced break.

Race 8:
SCALES OF JUSTICE (3) can stalk an even tempo, just as he did first up. Fitter for that strong win and like him back to 1400m around here where he starred in the Memsie. Ran great time there and a return to that level of form would set the bar nice and high for the chasing pack. HEY DOC (2) was sound behind him last time and will lead for a long way. Hard horse to catch. Big overs could be SO SI BON (7) who is hard to catch but his best through the spring ties right in here. Well worth keeping on side. AVILIUS (1) is the class horse. Will be working home. BEGOOD TOYA MOTHER (10) is better than his fresh run where a messy race went against him.

Race 9:
SYLVIA’S MOTHER (9) is the key runner. Resumes after finishing third at this course and distance in the Cockram in the early spring. Fairly long break but smart yard and if they have her ready to go then she is good enough to beat them. MY PENDANT (5) ties in with her from last prep. She blew the cobwebs off first up at Flemington and could improve sharply second up. Good overall time from BAM’S ON FIRE (6) winning last time and she can measure right up off that. Similar story NEWS GIRL (8). Found the right race last time but won it well and can measure up. FIDELIA (4) will be rattling home as she does.

Sportsbet – Race Comments and Selections:

Race 2:
SPEED: 1, 2, 4, 7 all go forward. 3 takes trail? HOW WOMANTIC can measure up here, she was too strong for the boys last time, then go back two runs and she’s winning here, running 1:02.79 for 1100m. Yeah, that’s fast. The danger might be swooper DON’TTELLTHEBOSS, who’s been on the heels of Loving Gaby and Exhilarates and has exceptional closing speed. There does look hot speed on paper here! ACTING and SOUTHBANK had group form last prep. Both resume. SCORE impressed last time ridden back. AQUITAINE can run time. Hard putting the pen through any of these.
Selections: 2. How Womantic (top tip), 8. Don’ttelltheboss, 5. Score, 1. Acting

Race 3:
MUNTASEERA matched motors with Loving Gaby in a recent jumpout. Loved her Rosehill win before the break, when she seemingly still had a stack of upside to her. FRESH wasn’t ideally suited back at 1000m in the Preview, she didn’t quicken but her last 100m was very nice work. A BEAUTIFUL NIGHT won that race of course, and she gave a nice kick that day. AWARD WINNER hit the line and blinkers go on her here. She beat A Beautiful Night on debut remember. Overs? GEIST is an 1100m tick also. UNSTOPPABELLE was good from well back in that Preview. Nice trial CLEAN MACHINE
Selections: 2. Muntaseera (top tip), 4. Fresh, 10. Geist

Race 4:
Having real trouble splitting RULERSHIP and HANSEATIC here. At the early odds, have to lean to Rulership, who trialled brilliantly before being backed on debut and racing away running good time. Loved his strength through the line. He’ll have a head start on Hanseatic but will it be enough? “Han” produced a booming finish to win the Preview running away and will be even better suited here fitter, to 1100m. Two very good 2YOs I fancy. HARD LANDING beat RATHLIN on debut with Rahlin then winning a Queensland stakes race impressively. Both debutants NORTH PACIFIC and WINSUM have trialled very well.
Selections: 7. Rulership (top tip), 1. Hanseatic, 4. Hard Landing, 2. Rathlin

Race 5:
Not sure leader here but 1, 3, 7 go forward. 6 & 8 can be up there also? MICROPHONE didn’t quicken around the tight MV track against older horses but his last 100m was nice work. Back to 3YO grade out to 1400m suits. BANQUO is much better suited out to 1400m himself. ADELAIDE ACE looked super winning fresh but will he need further sooner rather than later? This Kiwi SAVVY LAD creates interest, he’s been on dry ground once for a big win, in good time, with winning form behind him. ZERO DOUBT, WEDGETAIL and WILMOT PASS had a great battle here last time.
Selections: 1. Microphone (top tip), 3. Banquo, 8. Savvy Lad

Race 6:
SPEED: 6, 8, 10 go forward. 2, 3, 5 handy. The filly ANAHEED can measure up here. Last time we saw her she was worn down by Loving Gaby (another 3YO filly) in G1/WFA Manikato after working early. Her recent trial win was strong! WILD PLANET also resumes and he too trialled very nicely. His last fresh run he split Krone and Classique Legend. ADMIRAL’S JOKER is a ripper and all his fresh form is super. AGE OF CHIVALRY should have won fresh last prep then easily beat Rox the Castle. That horse ties in Admiral’s Joker. 3YO colt SATORIAL SPLENDOR can win on his Garner form. Can make case for most here!
Selections: 10. Anaheed (best of the day), 2. Wild Planet, 1. Admiral’s Joker, 5. Age Of Chivalry

Race 7:
SPEED: 2 may lead 8. 10, 1 can be right up there. What to do with ODEON ? what to do, what to do? Doubt I’d be shouting ”I was beaten by Galaxy Raider” from rooftops, but he did do some early work last start and second was Vaucluse Bay, who then won well, twice. Oh, and he gave them plenty of weight. GUIZOT looks about ready to win, the race shape was against him last time. MACLAIREY had excuses last time also. This weight scale does NOT suit him though. MISS SISKA’s last fresh run was a second to Spanish Whisper in Let’s Elope Stakes, she won fresh up prior. DUCA VALENTINOIS improves?
Selections: 10. Miss Siska (top tip), 2. Odeon, 5. Guizot, 3. Duca Valentinois

Race 8:
10 leads 2, 3 with 12 handy. AVILIUS is the class act here. The query is can he wind up in time to run over them at 1400m? He’s been at this trip once, charging late behind Samadoubt (who led) in the Winx Stakes fresh last prep, beaten 0.9L and crossing the line with Happy Clapper. SCALES OF JUSTICE was a strong return winner running down HEY DOC with RINGERDINGDING making ground inside. Scales has great second-up form and won the Memsie here in spring, beating SO SI BON. BEGOOD TOYA MOTHER led in that Memsie versus the pattern and ran VERY well. 3YO ALABAMA EXPRESS a hope with FIERCE IMPACT.
Selections: 1. Avilius (value bet), 3. Scales Of Justice, 10. Begood Toya Mother, 4. Fierce Impact

Race 9:
SPEED: 8, 12 can lead 1, 3. 7 & 6 can be handy. SYLVIA’S MOTHER has a touch of class, she missed the kick in a trial (don’t want to see that from gate 1 today) then made up good ground. All her fresh form is super. BAM’S ON FIRE beat the males last time with 60kg, she looks to get a gun run here. FIDELIA charged late fresh last prep here at 1200m. INVICTUS SALUTE is a good, tough mare but 1200m is uncharted waters for her. On-pacers NEWS GIRL (flying) and ANGELIC SPIRIT are hopes. MY PENDANT ran very well behind Sylvia’s Mother last prep. BENITOITE, SPANISH REEF chances, better suited 1400m?
Selections: 9. Sylvia’s Mother (top tip), 6. Bam’s On Fire, 5. My Pendant, 4. Fidelia
