Race 8: Odeum (5.00)

Unibet – Race Comments:

Race 1:
TUTUKAKA (3) Rocketed home into 3rd last run at the track. Bet with confidence. BALMAURICE (2) On a short back up. Good run when finishing 2nd two runs back at Ipswich but going up in distance. Prominent showing expected and won’t be far off them. GENERAL WOLFFE (1) Came on strongly when 5th last run at Ipswich and should get going late. Strong claims. CALPURNIA (5) Placed 3rd last run at Rockhampton and can save some energy from the alley. Backing up quickly. Could place.

Race 2:
REDOUTE’S IMAGE (1) Landed the spoils when winning last start at Sunshine Coast and having third run back from a break. Should enjoy a cosy run off the pace. The one to beat. ELOQUENTLY (8) Left nothing to chance when winning last run at Toowoomba and expecting to settle positively. Going well this campaign. Hard to hold out. MICROWAVE JENNY (9) Having second run back from a break. Put in a competitive run when placing 3rd last start at Gold Coast and expected to be flashing home. Deserves consideration. BETTER THAN BEST (4) Races well second up. Made no mistakes when winning three runs back at Toowoomba and proven performer at this distance in the past. Could run into the placings.

Race 3:
KINGSTON’S HERE (5) Having second run back from a spell. Kicked clear when winning last start at Gold Coast and goes down in weight. Should get a lovely cart into it from just behind the leaders. Take beating. MASS DESTRUCTION (1) Kept coming when 2nd last run at this track and likely to race off the speed. Has been a model of consistency since resuming from a break. One of the major players. GAROPPOLO (6) Struggled when beaten by 2L at this venue last time on a good track. Gets in well and will benefit with the weight drop. Finishes off strongly. Should be right in the finish. SUPER GORGEOUS (11) Solid effort when winning last time at Ipswich and will appreciate the drop in weight. Could pose a threat and looks promising.

Race 4:
POLLY GREY (1) Got the upper hand late when winning two runs back at Rosehill and very competitive this preparation. Should land a nice spot just off the speed. Win looks likely. ZAYYDANI (7) Was first to greet the judge when winning last time at Gold Coast and displays very good finishing speed. Has run into the money 4 from 5 attempts this campaign. Warrants a bet. WALKING FLYING (3) Finished strongly when 3rd three runs back at Doomben but stepping up in trip. Gets a chance to win. LA GRISA (6) Fought on gamely when winning three runs back at Warwick Farm and finishes off strongly. Worth a ticket.

Race 5:
TANGO RAIN (2) Brave effort to win last time at Rockhampton and suited at this distance in the past. Looks very sharp this preparation with 3 wins from 3 starts. Respect. AHWAHNEECHEE (4) Displayed potential when winning last run at Barcaldine and carrying less weight this time. Been in the money 11 from 15 attempts this campaign. Winning hope. BOLLENTE (1) Really dug deep when winning last start at Emerald and will try to take advantage of the barrier. Likely threat. RATHER SALUBRIOUS (7) Nice effort when winning last start at Goondiwindi but up against stronger competition today. Racing consistently this campaign. Suited in this race and can place today.

Race 6:
INCENTIVISE (4) Had a comfortable win last time at Ipswich and backs up quickly today. Going well this campaign winning 5 from 7 starts. Bet with confidence. SOUTHERN FRANCE (2) Weakened under pressure when 8th last run at this venue. Should just about get the run of the race. Contender. MIRAGE DANCER (1) Lost ground in the run home when 8th last time around here but always seems to find the line well. Has some strong credentials in this race. TRADUCE (5) Backing up quickly. Good win three runs back around here. Suited in this race and can place today.

Race 7:
SHOOTING FOR GOLD (6) Got the upper hand late when winning three runs back around here but resumes from a break. Should land a nice spot just off the speed. Deserves a win. DEVIL’S TEMPTATION (4) Having third run back from a break. Had a comfortable win last run at Gold Coast and suited by the weight drop. Massive hope. GENZAI THE WOLF (5) Game effort to win last start here but bit of extra work to do with more weight today. Keep an eye on the market. DESERT MAN (2) Displayed potential when winning last start at Doomben but hoping that the added weight won’t hurt. Going well this campaign. Place chance.

Race 8:
TOFANE (1) Really dug deep when winning last run at this track but goes up in weight. Should take beating. ODEUM (16) Produced an eye catching run when 2nd last run at the track and dropping weight today. Trifectas chance. SAVATIANO (2) Got the upper hand late when winning three runs back at Randwick. Racing consistently this campaign. Can threaten if right today. SUBPOENAED (8) Dashed home into 2nd two runs back at Morphettville but hoping that the added weight won’t hurt. Possesses good finishing speed. Very strong each way claims.

Race 9:
BALLER (1) Finished on top last start at the track and having third run back from a spell. Strong form this preparation winning 2 from as many starts. Goes very close. USMANOV (2) Handy enough when winning last start here and drawn nicely. Will be pushing for a forward position early. Must respect. AWAY GAME (6) Gave plenty of cheek when 3rd last run at the track and displays good tactical speed. Should go close. EXHILARATES (3) Solid win two runs back at this course. Gets back and needs luck. Sportsbet – Race Comments and Selections:

Race 1:
The final Group 1 race of the season is to be run at Eagle Farm on Saturday on what will be a great days racing. The weather may be a little damp however I highly doubt it will affect this surface, no need to look for wet trackers. Just the 5 acceptors in the first race where there’s no leader on the map & as they’re all out to the longer trip for the first time anything is possible! Liked the Kiwi TUTUKAKA’s last to 3rd run here 3 weeks back, should relish the additional trip & comes through stronger formlines than his rivals. GENERAL WOLFE & BALMAURICE should fight out 2nd & 3rd spots.
Selections: 3. Tutukaka (Top Tip), 1. General Wolffe, 2. Balmaurice, 4. Kaytee Reinado

Race 2:
The speedy Hancora Field will be looking to dash over from her wide draw & cross, there’s no speedsters drawn underneath however enough to give her some competition early on. The Chris Waller trained SELEQUE has also accepted for down south, no doubt she’ll be competitive wherever she heads however probably more so here from the ideal draw. Fresh runs to date have been a win & solid 2nd, with J Mac on top she should get the right run. ELOQUENTLY has to raise the bar here, wins at Toowoomba have been quite dominant so every chance she can. REDOUTE’S IMAGE in the mix.
Selections: 5. Seleque (Top Tip – SCRATCHED), 8. Eloquently, 1. Redoute’s Image, 9. Microwave Jenny

Race 3:
Pace from Super Gorgeous wide out, 2, 7, & 10 perhaps the most likely to offer opposition? MASS DESTRUCTION the likely obvious however I’m going to spec GAROPPOLO at hopefully good odds. Finished 1.95L behind MASS DESTRUCTION last start hard against the inside rail which was not the pattern of the day at all, only lightly raced he’s shown good ability & with the claim meets MASS a whopping 8kg better at the weights! KINGSTON’S HERE resumed in very impressive style at the Gold Coast, will need to step up here however based on that win can do so. Market watch no.3
Selections: 6. Garoppolo (Value Bet), 1. Mass Destruction, 5. Kingston’s Here, 3. Acrobatic

Race 4:
Nos.2, 5 & 11 all roll forward here, suggest 1 will also. Not sure what to make of POLLY GREY’s run here last start, I’m of the opinion she was a little flat dropping back to 1600m from three successive 2000-2100m outings, the other school of thought is she may not have handled the track? If she didn’t then she’d hardly be going around here suggesting back to the longer trip off a freshen up she’s well placed. WALKING FLYING ran well in the same race, should handle the step up in trip just fine. DEEPWOOD VALE looks to be one on the improve, the booking of Williams a definite positive.
Selections: 1. Polly Grey (Top Tip), 3. Walking Flying, 8. Deepwood Vale, 2. Maid Of Ore

Race 5:
The ‘Battle Of The Bush’ is a terrific concept introduced by Racing Queensland which makes this day more of a highlight each year. They’ll be plenty of country visitors on track to cheer home their fancies in what will be a very competitive race. Unfortunately for tipsters it’s a dartboard job as we don’t see a lot of the videos from the country venues. I’ll go with AHWANEECHEE who gets the services of Hugh Bowman, form is very consistent winning at Barcaldine & Townsville within his past 3 starts.
Selections: 4. Ahwahneechee (Top Tip), 1. Bollente, 9. Manila Miss, 2. Tango Rain

Race 6:
This race is all about INCENTIVISE who will most likely farewell Queensland racing for the time being as he heads south to join the Peter Moody stable for a spring cups campaign. He’s been totally dominant beating the inferior grade horses & yes he does take on open company for the first time today however the manner & margins of his wins have been arrogant. TRADUCE might be able to fill one of the placings, should have finished a little closer last time out whilst MIRAGE DANCER & SOUTHERN FRANCE if able to lift their games are also contenders.
Selections: 4. Incentivise (Top Tip), 5. Traduce, 1. Mirage Dancer, 2. Southern France

Race 7:
Speed solid as you expect in a 1000m race here, nos.1, 2, 3, 4 all capable of leading & there will be others keeping them honest. SHOOTING FOR GOLD takes on the older horses at his return to the track which I feel will be a winning one. He showed plenty of talent at his first & second preps & is very effective fresh, his recent trial win at Doomben in slick time was a good one. WUDANG BLADE can trail from the good gate should the pressure be too much early on, generally thereabouts. Plenty of other hopes away from the top tip, UNGUARDED is one I’d throw in my exotics.
Selections: 6. Shooting For Gold (Top Tip), 1. Wudang Blade, 5. Genzai The Wolf, 10. Unguarded

Race 8:
The big one of the day is the Tattersall’s Tiara at Group 1 level, always a super competitive race for the fillies & mares. Don’t see much tempo on the map, nos.2 & 17 looked the most likely however draw car park alleys, nos.3, 6?, 11, 13, 16, 18 & 14 all in the ‘settle handy’ category. Many winning chances, I’m sticking with NUDGE who has been terrific both wins up here, she’s done it against the tempo on each occasion & will likely face that task again. ODEUM will need luck from the gate, rarely far away though & fitter for latest run. No knock TOFANE, just won’t get Straddie tempo.
Selections: 9. Nudge (Top Tip), 16. Odeum, 1. Tofane, 7. Brooklyn Hustle

Race 9:
Speed should be good in the Healy with the likes of Usmanov, Away Game, Doctor Zous & Bella Nipotina all going forward, 8 & 12 likely pushing up behind? Always nice to wind up a big day with confidence & I’m with BALLER to make it three on the trot since landing at the stables of Tony Gollan. He’d been costly to many (me…) last prep & I’d given him the flick however he’s a different horse now racing with a real will to win & importantly he’s proven on this track. ZANIAH continues to race well, he’ll be out the back running home again late. HILO in the mix also, not far away last time.
Selections: 1. Baller (Best of the Day – SCRATCHED), 7. Zaniah, 11. Hilo, 3. Exhilarates

Sportsbet – The Wolf:

Race 4: 1. Polly Grey
Race 8: 3. Mizzy – each-way
