At the time of writing the biggest Draftstars contest for this round is a $75,000 competition for Carlton vs. Sydney on Friday night. Entry costs $15 and the top 25% of participants will receive a payout.

Carlton vs. Sydney

The two sides look to be evenly matched. Over the last twelve months 19 out of Carlton’s 22 games were settled by 1-39 points while the same can be said for 9 out of Sydney’s 11 away games. I would back both Carlton 1-12 at 2.45 (bet365) and Sydney 1-12 at 2.35 (bet365).

Richmond vs. Essendon

Richmond have won 11 straight games against Essendon and with the dataset I have at hand they have won all 12 games when installed as the favourite against the Bombers. Essendon have made a 2-7 start to the season and they have gone 3-11 as the underdog over the last twelve months. Richmond are on a three-game winning streak, powered largely by their offence, which scored 165, 113 and 117 points. I would back Richmond in the head-to-head at 1.27 (BlueBet)

GWS vs. West Coast

GWS have made a poor start to the season but they have had a tough schedule. Seven of their opponents this season are currently in the top 8. They should receive at least a short-term bounce under new coach Mark McVeigh. West Coast have lost five consecutive games by an eye-watering average margin of 81. All five defeats were by 63+ points. I would back GWS in the head-to-head at 1.13 (BlueBet)

Hawthorn vs. Brisbane

Hawthorn’s last six games all went over 172.5 points and the average total score across that stretch was 189 points. They now take on the top scoring team in the league, Brisbane, who scored over 100 points in their last four games. Hawthorn’s last six games have gone over the bookmakers’ total and the same can be said for 9 out of Brisbane’s 12 away games over the last twelve months. The Lions’ last five visits to UTAS Stadium averaged 173.2 total points and the benign weather forecast for Launceston on Sunday is partly cloudy with light winds. I would back over 170.5 points at 1.90 (Picklebet).
