To take advantage of odds before they possibly shorten, these previews are often published before the team sheets are announced. Those who are more risk-averse should wait for the squad lists before wagering. This is especially important given the periodic resting of international players in the lead up to this year’s World Cup.

Brumbies

Brumbies vs. Drua

Fijian Drua

The Fijian Drua are proving to be immensely difficult to beat in the hot and humid conditions of Fiji, but it’s another story away from home. The Drua have gone 0-5 as the away underdog over the last twelve months and the last time they visited Canberra they were thrashed 42-3. Both of the Brumbies’ two previous fixtures against the Drua were won by 21+ points and the Brumbies covered the line in both of those games. Four of the Drua’s five away defeats over the last twelve months were by 13+ points and I don’t expect they will relish the cold night in Canberra. I would back the Brumbies 13+ at 1.55 (bet365). Those looking for more risk should consider the Brumbies -17.5 at 1.85 (BlueBet).

Hurricanes

Hurricanes vs. Chiefs

Chiefs

This should be a great contest. The Hurricanes have gone 5-1 at home over the last twelve months, while the Chiefs have gone 6-1 away from home. The Hurricanes bring a 4-game winning streak into this clash, while the Chiefs have gone 6-0 this season. In the previous 15 meetings hosted by the Hurricanes, the Wellington side never lost by 13+, however they have lost three straight games to the Chiefs. Like most bookmakers, I find it hard to pick a winner, so I will back both the Hurricanes 1-12 at 3.15 (Unibet) and the Chiefs 1-12 at 2.95 (Unibet).
