AFL Round 24 Betting Tips

The following are betting tips for selected fixtures in Round 24 of the 2023 AFL season. This is the final round of the regular season, so I’m wary of backing the away sides who have little to play for.

At the time of writing the biggest Draftstars contest for this round is the $60,000 competition for the Friday night clash between Essendon and Collingwood. Entry costs $15 and the top 25% of participants will receive a payout.

Brisbane

Brisbane vs. St Kilda

St Kilda

Brisbane need the win this weekend to guarantee a top-two finish. They have won 12 straight at home as well as 13 of the last 14 at the Gabba. Brisbane have won and covered the line in their last three games against St Kilda. Eight of St Kilda’s nine defeats over the last twelve months were by 1-39 months and over the last decade they have never lost away to Brisbane by 40+. I would back Brisbane 1-39 at 2.20 (Dabble).

Port Adelaide

Port Adelaide vs. Richmond

Richmond

Port Adelaide will want to enter the finals in winning form and a win would guarantee the third seed. Richmond is out of finals contention so they have little to play for, especially given this game is outside Melbourne. Port Adelaide have gone 9-2 at home over the last twelve months while Richmond have gone 2-5 as the away underdog. The Tigers have failed to cover the line in their last six games coming into this clash, which includes their last four away games. Port Adelaide won last week and over the last twelve months they have gone 14-2 on the back of a win. Port Adelaide have already beaten Richmond this season in Melbourne. I’m unsure about the winning margin so I will simply back Port Adelaide in the head-to-head at 1.15 (Betfair).

Sydney

Sydney vs. Melbourne

Melbourne

I predict a competitive game. Both teams bring 6-1 form into this clash. Sydney have not lost by 25+ at home this season, while eight of Melbourne’s nine defeats over the last twelve months were by 1-24 margins. Five of Sydney’s last six wins were by 1-24 margins and four of those wins were by 1-11 margins. I would back Any Other Result in the Tribets +24.5 market at 1.73 (Bet Right). Those looking for less risk should consider Any Other Result in the Tribets +39.5 market at 1.20 (Bet Right).
