Western United vs Adelaide UnitedFriday May 09, 7:35pm Ironbark Fields |
![]() |
Irobark Fields will be the host for this affair and boy won’t it be popping off. Just one season after finishing second-last on the ladder the ‘Green & Black’ have rebounded in the best way possible under experienced mentor John Aloisi, finishing 3rd and are now vying for their second-ever Grand Final triumph. Whilst for the ‘Reds’ they earned a spot in the Top Six at the expense of a struggling Sydney FC side, however Carl Veart who is in his last campaign with the club will be looking to make every second count. Adelaide head into this do-or-die affair on the back of a three-game unbeaten streak. Western United have won their last five straight clashes at home and have conceded just four goals over that period, with a notoriously stingy defence guarding their line. Whilst for the visitors they’ll be hoping that their ageing like fine wine duo of 29-year-old Stephen Mark and 30-year-old Zac Clough can garner the club another impressive victory. The Midfielder and Attacker have locked in 8 goals + 2 assists and 7 goals + 9 assists this season respectively. Will it be defence, or attack that wins out on Friday evening!
WUN last three results; W WUN 4-2 vs Auckland FC @Ironbark Fields, W WUN 1-0 vs Sydney FC @Ironbark Fields and L WUN 1-2 vs Brisbane Roar @Suncorp Stadium.
ADL last three results; D ADL 0-0 vs Melbourne City @AAMI Park, D ADL 1-1 vs Brisbane Roar @Suncorp Stadium and W ADL 3-2 vs Wellington Phoenix @Hindmarsh Stadium.
This season Western United have Noah Botic on 12 goals + 6 assists. They also have Hiroshi Ibusuki on 10 goals + 1 assist. Matthew Grimaldi has also secured 5 goals + 1 assist. Whilst Riku Danzaki has 4 goals + 7 assists. Their defence is lethal and their attack ain’t half bad either. With the ‘Reds’ top scorer Archie Goodwin battling injury woes currently, Adelaide will find themselves incredibly hard pressed to match the hosts in either department. And with the recent news that FIFA isn’t allowing the ‘Green & Black’ to sign any new faces for the next three transfer windows, these players have the opportunity to highlight exactly why they are the ones to lead the club into the future and beyond. They will highlight exactly why the club has been so damn good this season and why Tarneit is a fortress and a half. For Adelaide, as hard as they’ll likely try, this is where their campaign comes to an unfortunate, albeit expected end.
Betting tips: Back a ‘Green & Black’ victory at $1.80 (BetR, Bet365)
Also back John Aloisi’s troops to strike first at $1.50 (Bet365)
And choose at least one of Noah Botic and/or Hiroshi Ibusuki to score anytime at $1.95 (Bet365)

Western Sydney Wanderers vs Melbourne VictorySaturday May 10, 7:35pm CommBank Stadium |
|
On Saturday evening at what’s sure to be a packed to the rafters CommBank Stadium we have the 4th placed Western Sydney Wanderers up against the 5th placed Melbourne Victory vying for a spot in the semi-finals. Both teams would be a worthy candidate for this, however only one can advance! Will it be the ‘Red & Black’ who under the watchful eye of Alen Stajcic are in the midst of their second-ever biggest unbeaten streak as a club, 12 straight games? Or will it be the Victorian’s who spoil the party at home, as they themselves have won three of their last five appearances? Departing Winger and AUS u23 International Nicolas Milanovic will be looking to extend his career in ‘Wanderland’ by at least one more match, as he has 12 goals + 6 assists on the season. Whilst equal to the task will undoubtedly be explosive Forward, rival 23-year-old and recent Socceroo Nishan Velupillay, who’s registered 7 goals + 4 assists this season. Both teams will give 110% here, but only one can come out on top!
WSW last three results; W WSW 3-1 vs Macarthur FC @Campbelltown Stadium, W WSW 1-0 vs Newcastle Jets @McDonald Jones Stadium and D WSW 2-2 vs Melbourne City @CommBank Stadium.
MVC last three results; D MVC 1-1 vs Newcastle Jets @AAMI Park, W MVC 2-1 vs Macarthur FC @Campbelltown Stadium and L MVC 0-2 vs Auckland FC @AAMI Park.
The Wanderers drew their last game in Parramatta two-all against Melbourne City. Prior to that they won four straight there. The Victory will be entering a cauldron in their sudden death game and despite the experience possessed by Arthur Diles Men, it will be far from an easy task for them. They have won just one of their last six games, with the ‘Red & Black’ prevailing in the other five. Melbourne have also leaked 11 goals over the course of their last five away games. The hosts are on fire at the moment and there’s nothing Melbourne can do to extinguish it. Even when they last met, the Wanderers overcame a 2-0 deficit at CommBank Stadium to post a commanding 4-2 victory. The Victory have done impressively since the departure of Tony Popovic, however this is where the road ends for them.
Betting tips: Back a Western Sydney victory at $2.40 (Bet365)
However also back the Victory to score the games last goal at $2.05 (Dabble)
And look for the first half goals to be over 0.5 and for the second half strikes to be over 1.5 at $1.28 and $1.72 respectively (Bet365)
