English Premier League Gameweek 2 Betting Tips

The following are betting tips for selected fixtures in Gameweek 2 of the 2025/26 English Premier League season. Where two or more options are provided for the same tip, pick the one that best suits your risk appetite.

The early season can be a trying time to submit picks. The games last week featured up to five new players between the two sides, compared to when I published my tips.

West Ham

West Ham vs. Chelsea

Chelsea

Chelsea in the head-to-head at 1.74 (Betfair)

West Ham fell 3-0 to the newly promoted Sunderland last week, which has put Graham Potter under immediate pressure. The Hammers rarely lost two games in a row last season, but then again, they rarely lost 3-0 to a newly promoted club. West Ham have gone 2-2-7 as the home underdog over the last twelve months and Chelsea completed the double over them last season. The Blues won this fixture 3-0 last year. Chelsea looked a bit under-cooked against Crystal Palace last week, which is understandable given their truncated pre-season following the Club World Cup. They should be better for another week under their belts as their latest signings – such as the five debutants last week – settle in.

Man City

Man City vs. Tottenham

Tottenham

Over 2.5 goals at 1.50 (bet365)

Thirteen of Tottenham’s last fifteen away games against Man City went over 2.5 goals and ten of those went over 3.5. Both sides looked potent in attack last week, with City scoring four times and Spurs scoring three.

Burnley

Burnley vs. Sunderland

Sunderland

Sunderland +0.5 at 1.63 (Betfair)

With so many new signings for these newly promoted clubs, there’s very little to go on, so I will back the underdog. Sunderland got their campaign off to a dream start with a 3-0 home win over West Ham last week, while Burnley lost 3-0 at home to Tottenham. Sunderland’s last two visits to Turf Moor resulted in a draw.

Everton

Everton vs. Brighton

Brighton

Brighton in the head-to-head at 2.48 (BoomBet)
Brighton +0.5 at 1.46 (Betfair)

Everton kicked off their campaign with a 1-0 defeat to the newly promoted Leeds. The Toffees managed just one shot on target in the game and recorded an xG of 0.55. Brighton will be kicking themselves after conceded a last-gasp goal to draw Fulham in their opening fixture. Everton have gone 1-4-3 as the home underdog over the last twelve months, while Brighton have gone 4-2-1 as the away favourite. Brighton have a 2-1-0 record as the away favourite in the Premier League against Everton. The only query is the impact that the new stadium will have. This will be Everton’s first competitive fixture here, but they lost their pre-season game at this venue 0-1 to Roma.

Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace vs. Nottm Forest

Nottm Forest

Nottingham Forest +0.5 at 1.72 (Betfair)

There might be a bit of fire in this, because Crystal Palace were demoted out of the Europa League, and the extra £20m prize money that comes with it, with Nottingham Forest taking their place. A key for this game is Crystal Palace are the only Premier League club this week to be backing up after a midweek fixture. They host Fredrikstad in their Europa Conference League playoff first leg on Thursday night. They will then play the second leg the following Thursday. Oliver Glasner is a tournament-focused coach, so I suspect he will field a near full-strength squad against the Norwegian side, despite Palace being the heavy favourite. Added to the mix is the uncertainty over whether Crystal Palace will keep hold of captain Marc Guehi and talisman Eberechi Eze. One or both of these players could be gone by the time this game kicks off. Nottingham Forest boast an unbeaten 2-4-0 record against Crystal Palace since promotion, and a 0-3-0 record at Selhurst Park.

Fulham

Fulham vs. Man Utd

Man Utd

Man Utd in the head-to-head at 2.30 (bet365)
Man Utd +0.5 at 1.41 (Betfair)

Fulham ended last season with three consecutive home defeats. Apart from a bad goalkeeping error, Man Utd looked good against Arsenal last week. Fulham have a dreadful 0-1-8 home record against the Red Devils in recent years in the Premier League. United won their last straight eight visits to Craven Cottage.
