Draftstars have a $50,000 fantasy sports contest for the Carlton vs. Brisbane clash on Thursday night. Entry costs $15 and the top 25% of participants will receive a payout.

Carlton

Carlton vs. Brisbane

Brisbane

Brisbane boast the league’s best 6-1-1 away record this season. They covered the line in their last three away wins and, looking back further, the Lions boast a 12-1-2 record away from home over the last twelve months. The injury-hit Carlton have gone 2-9 as the underdog and 1-4 as the home underdog over the last twelve months. The Blues failed to cover the line in their last four home games and their recent results are a concern: an 11-point defeat to North Melbourne, a 50-point defeat to Port Adelaide and a 56-point defeat to Collingwood. Charlie Curnow has failed to kick a goal in three games since his return to injury, while Harry McKay and Sam Walsh remain out. Zac Williams took a knock last week and may also be out this week. Brisbane won and covered the line in their last two away games against Carlton. I would back Brisbane in the head-to-head at 1.22 (bet365). Those looking for more risk should consider Brisbane 25+ at 1.82 (Dabble).

Gold Coast

Gold Coast vs. Collingwood

Collingwood

The Suns bring 5-1 home form into this game, while the Pies boast a 6-1 away record. Five of Gold Coast’s six home wins over the last twelve months were by 1-24 margins and with the dataset I have at hand, they have never beaten Collingwood by 25+. The Suns have lost five times this season and all five defeats were by 1-24. Their average losing margin was just 14.0 and four of their five defeats were by 1-17. I would back both Gold Coast 1-24 at 3.60 (Dabble) and Collingwood 1-24 at 3.40 (Dabble).

GWS

GWS vs. Geelong

Geelong

This is a chance for Geelong to dish up some revenge after having lost three consecutive home games to GWS. The Suns have a mediocre 5-4 record as the home favourite over the last twelve months, while Geelong boast a 4-1 head-to-head and 5-0 line record as the away underdog. In prior history between the two clubs, the Cats have gone 3-1-1 in the head-to-head and 4-1 at the line as the underdog against GWS. The Cats have only suffered two away defeats over the last twelve months and both were by 1-24 margins. Six of their previous seven defeats to the Giants were by 1-24 margins. As for GWS, all nine of their defeats over the last twelve months were by 1-39 margins. I would place the following pair of bets:
0.4 units on GWS 1-24 at 3.60 (Dabble)
0.6 units on Geelong 1-39 at 2.30 (Dabble)

Richmond

Richmond vs. Essendon

Essendon

The MCG has averaged 164.4 total points this season and this game features the 16th and 18th lowest scoring teams in the league. Their most recent meeting in May saw 139 total points and, looking back further, their last five meetings with Richmond as the home side went under the total. I would back Under 174.5 at 1.50 (bet365).

Fremantle

Fremantle vs. Hawthorn

Hawthorn

As the home side, Fremantle have gone 6-1 in the head-to-head, both in the first quarter and the first half this season. As the away side, Hawthorn have gone 5-4 in the first quarter and 4-5 in the first half. I would place a small SGM on Adelaide to win both the first quarter and the first half at 2.50 (bet365, Dabble).

Port Adelaide

Port Adelaide vs. West Coast

West Coast

West Coast have lost nine consecutive away games and their last four away fixtures against Port Adelaide resulted in 48, 84, 40 and 50-point defeats. Over the last twelve months, six of Port Adelaide’s nine home wins and eight of West Coast’s eleven away defeats were by 25+ margins. I would back Port Adelaide in the head-to-head at 1.13 (Betfair). Those looking for more risk should consider Port Adelaide 25+ at 1.46 (Dabble).
