Race 8: The Velvet King

Unibet – Race Comments:

Race 8:
THE VELVET KING (8) Races well second up winning 2 from 4 runs. Rocketed home into 2nd last start at Ascot and ideal distance as proven previously. Expected to fight out the finish. ANGELIC RULER (13) Left nothing to chance when winning two runs back at Ascot. Expecting to settle just off the pace. Looks promising in this race. FLIRTINI (14) Flew home into 2nd two runs back at Ascot. Should get a lovely cart into it from just behind the pace. No shock to see a win. MISSISSIPPI DELTA (11) Proven record when resuming with 2 wins from 4 attempts. Got the prize when winning last time at Ascot and always seems to find the line well. Has scope so do not ignore.

Sportsbet – Race Comments and Selections:

Race 8:
Really keen on THE VELVET KING to claim a belter of a Belmont Sprint. Enormous in defeat in the Roma Cup when forced to breeze three/four/five wide throughout and narrowly failing to overhaul Vega Magic. Ticks plenty of boxes rising to his pet trip at a rain-affected Belmont. From right on top of the speed, it’s going to take something special to get over the top. ANGELIC RULER was huge in the Roma Cup and is much better suited at 1400m. Expect Perth Cup winner MISSISSIPPI DELTA to be ready to fire first up. Group 1-winning warhorse GATTING can never be underestimated. FLIRTINI is all class.
Selections: 8. The Velvet King (top tip), 13. Angelic Ruler, 11. Mississippi Delta, 2. Gatting

Race 4:
GOTTA KISS is fool proof and draws the perfect gate. Not sure she is a $2.30 pop that’s for sure but she will again be there to win at the 100m. BELLEVUE STAR has good speed and I’d be surprised if she’s not our leader.Good winner two back before going 7L quicker than benchmark to the 600m last start. Good effort to run 4thand $9 looks overs around Doomben. SEPTEMBER RUN looks a real improving type. Trial at the start of the pre pwas good and broke maiden status when held up and letdown well late. Also looks generous odds at $8.
Selections: 5. September Run, 7. Bellevue Star, 1. Gotta Kiss, 4. Panna Cotta

Race 5:
ROCHA CLOCK is a ripper but from the gate they are likely to get a long way back and will need everything to go right at this track to win. It would be very interesting if they were positive and tracked VANNA GIRL everywhere she went. She will have the flashing light on that says back me at EF next start. They will push forward with VANNA GIRL and CELESTIAL FALLS. They can both land in the first two pairs and they should get all the favours. Don’t feel there is a lot between them and keen to see what sort of support CELESTIAL FALLS gets raceday. Of the rest, MISS PENFOLD should run better than the 50/1 quote suggests.
Selections: 4. Celestial Falls, 2. Vanna Girl, 1. Rocha Clock, 11. Miss Penfold

Race 6:
Extremely hard to map this. One thing for sure is there will be many horses 3-4 wide and the winner might be the horse who has the most luck in running. BOOMTOWN LASS has drawn horribly but has great gate speed and likely to go handlebars down to sit outside leader. She can give a sight, her chances just come down to how hard she has to work early. USMANOV has plenty of upside, as does PENNINO. Both come off good quality wins and both suited. Both will need luck getting cover from wide gates though. On the other hand SPURCRAFT and HOLD THE LINE should find the fence behind the leaders, both can hesitate at the start and it’s key they jump with them here. If they do they are sure to be around the money. Love what BANDIPUR has done since joining the Purdy yard. He comes out of the best form race and he will be flashing late. Chances don’t end there in a very good race.
Selections: 1. Bandipur, 9. Usmanov, 19. Hold The Line, 11. Emerald Kingdom

Race 7:
ILWENDO will lead or sit outside leader. ANOTHER DOLLAR will get the perfect run on the fence just off the speed and I’d expect MAGNUFIGHTER to get across and find cover not far off them. Off that map I’d expect them to all run well. ILWENDO is a ‘winner’ and has a sense of timing about him. He is improving all the time and has that good on tempo style. ANOTHER DOLLAR run down ILWENDO down last start, there is a 3kg swing in favour of ILWENDO so there should be very little between them. MAGNUFIGHTER is rock hard fit and 2000m is perfect. BLACK ON GOLD was huge fresh, just maps horribly and needs a very good ride or a lot of luck around Doomben.
Selections: 15. Ilwendo, 4. Another Dollar, 8. Magnufighter, 10. Black On Gold

Race 8:
The gate looks very sticky for DAWN PASSAGE but they have booked the right jock to over come it- B.Stewart.Clearly the best Qld jockey from a bad gate and he’s not scared to try anything to get cover. Class runner in form and the one they have to beat. GRAND PIANO has a heap of upside. A mile back to 1350m around Doomben doesn’t sound great but there is a decent tempo and he will be strong late. He looks the main danger and clear winning hope. SUBPOENAED and EXILARATES have plenty of class but they will need good rides from where they land.
Selections: 3. Dawn Passage, 5. Grand Piano, 12. Exhilarates, 1. The Odyssey

Race 9:
READY TO PROPHET should hold the front from SHALWA. If they can hold the lead until the first corner there is every chance they dictate terms and can be hard to catch if they steal a length or two on the corner. JEN RULES can easily find their backs if she jumps well enough. She was wide last start and still very good late. If the leaders are soft late she can get off their backs and get them down late. MULTAJA was one of the better runs in the silk stocking without a lot of luck in the straight. Should be able to sit midfield from the good draw and sure to be flashing late. It’s just her get back style that stops her winning more races. FIESTA and ROMANI GIRL come here off very good efforts but the map says they will need a lot of luck to run these down
Selection: 17. Jen Rules, 16. Shalwa, 4. Multaja, 7. Ready to Prophet

Unibet – Race Comments:

Race 4:
GOTTA KISS (1) Fought on well to win last start at this venue and likely to race off the speed. Can dominate and win. SEPTEMBER RUN (5) Second up from a break. Really dug deep when winning last time at Canterbury but up in class. Can fill a place in this field. PANNA COTTA (4) Having third run back from a spell. Brave effort to win two runs back at Randwick and going down in grade. Has each way claims. BELLEVUE STAR (7) Having third run back from a break. Solid effort when winning two runs back at Canterbury and will appreciate the drop in grade. Has scope so do not ignore.

Race 5:
VANNA GIRL (2) Won narrowly last start at this venue. Very competitive this campaign. Can win this. ROCHA CLOCK (1) Winner two runs back at Randwick but rising in weight. Respect in this company. CELESTIAL FALLS (4) Having second run back from a break. Chimed in with a win three runs back at Flemington and should be going forward early. Should be very competitive and is a genuine threat. SHUHOOD (8) Comprehensive victory when winning last start at Hawkesbury and going well this preparation. Has early speed and positions nicely. Races well in these conditions so do not discard.

Race 6:
USMANOV (9) Racing for the second time this week. Solid effort when winning last time at Gold Coast and tracking very well this campaign. Should muster plenty of early speed. Chance. EMERALD KINGDOM (11) Could build on a strong second up record. Made no mistakes when winning two runs back at Eagle Farm and shows good early pace. Among the chances. SPURCRAFT (5) Nice effort to run into 3rd last run at Gold Coast and suited by the weight drop. Consider an each way bet. SCALLOPINI (3) Fought on gamely when winning last time at Sunshine Coast and possesses good closing speed. Races well in these conditions so do not discard.

Race 7:
ILWENDO (15) Kicked clear when winning two runs back here and should muster plenty of early toe. Going well this preparation. Must respect in this event. ANOTHER DOLLAR (4) Won narrowly last run at Randwick but rising in weight today. Massive hope. LIVE AND FREE (14) Kept finding the line when 2nd two runs back at Rosehill and third up from a break. Expecting to settle just off the pace. Good chance and wouldn’t be surprised to see it pick up a win. MAGNUFIGHTER (8) Left nothing to chance when winning two runs back here. Been in the money 6 from 8 attempts this preparation. Has claims.

Race 8:
DAWN PASSAGE (3) Scored a victory last time at Rosehill. Expecting to settle just off the pace. Racing consistently this preparation. Can get the job done. HIGHTAIL (2) Game effort to win last run at Gold Coast and third up. Unbeaten this preparation with 2 wins from as many runs. Might take a while to wind up but should be hitting top gear in the straight. Should go well. EXHILARATES (12) Good run when placing 3rd last time at Gold Coast and second up from a spell. Should be swooping on the field late. Place chance. SUBPOENAED (13) Came on strongly to finish 2nd two runs back at Randwick and dropping weight today. Meeting a good field and you can take on trust.

Race 9:
FIESTA (1) Hit the line well when 2nd last time at Gold Coast and second up. Should get a lovely cart into it from just behind the leaders. Suitably placed in this race. INTO THE ABYSS (14) Good show finishing 2nd last start at Rosehill and can go through the gears. Open to improvement and has a show in this field. SUBPOENAED (18) Flew home into 2nd two runs back at Randwick and dropping weight today. Appears well in this. MULTAJA (4) Caught the eye when 2nd three runs back at Eagle Farm and always seems to find the line well. Strong each way bet.

Race 5: Vanna Girl
Race 6: Usmanov, saving on Spurcraft
Race 7: Ilwendo
Race 8: Dawn Passage

Sportsbet – Race Comments and Selections:

Race 4:
Speed on paper looks strong in this race, nos.6, 7, 10, 11, 13, 14 & 15 (at least) have shown pace in their races to date. That is going to suit GOTTA KISS however I’m not sure if gate 1 will be a help or a hinderance, wouldn’t want to see her bailed away climbing over tiring horses in the straight. I’m going with the Sydney visitor PANNA COTTA who won well fresh before tackling a strong form race at Rosehill last start when just held up at a crucial stage in the straight & likely should have finished a little closer. Ryan Maloney can find a nice spot from the perfect alley. MINJEE late.
Selections: 4. Panna Cotta (top tip), 1. Gotta Kiss, 2. Minjee, 7. Bellevue Star

Race 5:
Tempo all important here as two of the main chances (1 & 2) have drawn the carpark from a very awkward starting point. I’ve only got 8 & 12 as on paced runners with perhaps 4 & 13 (handy) on the map? CELESTIAL FALLS is one of those possible handy runners, she ran well first up & the step to the mile off a 3 week break won’t concern as she went 1300-1800m 2nd up last prep also off 3 weeks & won. Get the feeling VANNA GIRL will push on, should she find a spot she’ll be right in the finish, ran down Supergiant last start which is now a proven formline. ROCHA CLOCK & JEWELIANA in the mix.
Selections: 4. Celestial Falls (value bet), 2. Vanna Girl, 1. Rocha Clock, 3. Jeweliana

Race 6:
Speed galore here with many on-pace leading types, from inside to outside – 21, 18, 2, 15, 9, 4, & 9 (at least!). Looks an impossible race to sort out, thought HOLD THE LINE was very good behind Pennino first up at the Sunshine Coast running home well, is 3rd emergency here however there’s already one out & from that draw can camp close enough to hopefully strike in the straight. SCALLOPINI isn’t at his best fresh however he’s still very good & certainly good enough to give this a shake, good looking draw for him. TARZAN best of the on-pacers, could find the fence? No luck first up.
Selections: 19. Hold The Line (top tip), 3. Scallopini, 2. Tarzan, 7. Pennino

Race 7:
Here’s a race, should be a full gate with a stack of interstate (mostly NSW) form & Chris Waller has 8 of the 21 acceptors! Pace from 1, 9, 12, 15 & 18 suggesting genuine at least. ANOTHER DOLLAR should find a decent spot from that inside draw & secure a nice run in the race, he’s back in winning form now & seems to enjoy his racing when up here, holds a good record at this track. ILWENDO is another who loves it up here, if not taken on early he’ll give a good kick in the straight. ALIFEROUS is going along ok, just fear how much start he’s going to give away from that wide alley.
Selections: 4. Another Dollar (top tip), 15. Ilwendo

Race 8:
The Odyssey drew 12 at the Gold Coast & was a huge run almost winning, up 150m here he draws 13 (before scratchings), he will push on though. Nos.4, 6, 9 & 11 the other main pace in the race. Going with the visitor DAWN PASSAGE who is going great guns down south, overcame a tough run two back to win clearly before strong again latest, slightly awkward gate however if finds cover looks the one. HIGHTAIL will be running on strongly suited by the step up in distance now. Locals SCATHING & GARIBALDI both map well, worth including the pair in all exotics. EXHILARATES drawn well, closer?
Selections: 3. Dawn Passage (top tip), 12. Exhilarates, 9. Scathing

Race 9:
Cracking finale to wind up a terrific day’s racing. Shalwa goes forward from the good alley, Ready To Prophet up there, 3 could push on?, 10 & maybe 19 (if runs), no great speed on paper. No shortage of interstate opposition here however how well are they going? Happy to have something each-way SHALWA, she might not be as good as some of these (at their best) however she’s in great form, will bowl along & comes into this nice & fresh. MULTAJA & JEN RULES were both good at the Gold Coast running on, FIESTA was even better however where she ends up from that draw is anybody’s guess!
Selections: 16. Shalwa (top tip), 4. Multaja, 17. Jen Rules, 1. Fiesta

Race 7:
BOTTEGA (18) Chimed in with a win last start at Randwick and carrying less weight this time. Major player. DR DRILL (4) Fought on gamely when winning last run at Scone. Knockout chance in this. ILWENDO (15) Dominant winner two runs back at Doomben and expecting to settle positively. Very competitive this preparation. Looks value and a good place bet. SIXTIES GROOVE (1) Having second run back from a spell. Got the prize when winning three runs back at Eagle Farm but likely to get back. A win wouldn’t surprise.

bet365 – Suggested Play:

Race 7: Bottega each-way

Sportsbet – Race Comments and Selections:

Race 7:
Of 35 noms, Waller had 16 of them. He ends up with half the field proper. 19 can lead if here, otherwise 15 holds the front with 4, 9 and perhaps 7 handy. SIXTIES GROOVE did more than enough first-up to like him as he progresses to his very best distance. Has to give them all weight but has earned that honour well and truly. Indeed, 2nd-up last prep he was 1600 to 2000m as well and was beaten within 1L in a Group One. Should set up nicely to have last crack. Youngster BOTTEGA has a fitness advantage and appears promising. DR DRILL has come back as honest as ever.
