To take advantage of the odds before they possibly shorten, these previews are published before the team sheets are announced. Those who are more risk-averse should wait for the squad lists before wagering.

Reds

Reds vs. Highlanders

Highlanders

The Reds have gone 2-1 at home this season. One of their wins was over the Chiefs and their sole home defeat was by a 1-point margin to the Brumbies. The Highlanders bring a four-game losing streak into this clash and they have gone 1-6 away from home over the last twelve months. The Highlanders have won their last six against the Reds, however, and they have gone 4-1 at the line as the away underdog over the last twelve months. The Reds also have to contend with possible suspensions to Tate McDermott and Fraser McReight. My expectation is that the Reds will win but the Highlanders will cover the line. I would back the Highlanders +8.5 at 1.91 (bet365). Those looking for more risk should consider the Reds 1-12 at 3.00 (Unibet).

Blues

Blues vs. Brumbies

Brumbies

The Blues have gone 8-0 at home over the last twelve months and they put the rest of the league on notice with a 50-3 home win over the Force prior to last week’s bye. The Brumbies bring a five-game winning streak into this clash, however those wins were all over sides currently ranked 6th or worse in the standings. Their last away win was by a 1-point margin over the Reds and they previously lost by a 46-12 scoreline to the Chiefs in Hamilton, which isn’t a form guide to suggest they will beat the Blues at Eden Park. The Blues have covered the line in their last four home fixtures and they have not lost to the Brumbies on New Zealand soil since 2013. I would back the Blues in the head-to-head at 1.25 (bet365).
